I recall reading a news story back in the 80's about a future bride being
offered an expensive wedding or $100K towards a house by her parents.
She chose the wedding.

I used to know a guy, completely lost track of him, who was divorced before he finished paying off his wedding and honeymoon. Last time I saw him, 10 years later, he said he was finally out of debt.

The bride and I have never for a moment regretted getting married on the cheap.

BUY THE GUITAR!

:D

Weddings are a scam IMO

one of my good friends had a private wedding on some island off the coast of BC. It was cheap, memorable, very cool, and they didn't blow tons of $$

A buddy of mine was 'threatening' to have a wedding at an expensive resort nearby. It was still going to cost me >$1k to attend for 2 nights. Plus all the extras (gift, etc). I don't think many of our communal friends could afford it or were replying in the affirmative. They eloped recently (whew) and we're going to go out for a nice dinner or something instead.
