Not quite a guitar question, but close enough -- I have an Epiphone Mandobird VIII that I'm mildly modding.

I'm looking for suggestions for lightweight tuning machines. It's got mini Grovers on it at the moment, and the beastie suffers some from neck dive. Lighter tuners would help, so I'm here looking for helpful suggestions.

Does anyone have suggestions on lighter tuners that will fit, preferably with no modifications? Thanks!

Yeah, neck dive on a solid body, bolt on neck, mandolin. Sounds stupid, I know, but I want all the help I can get. I'll have to check the spacing to see if they'll fit.

Maybe I ought to put a Bigsby on it to add some weight at the tail? Hmm, where to get an 8-string trem tailpiece...

Use a standard one, well, small one and drill two more holes?
A Bigsby on a Mandobird would look cool.
