Hello,

Just wondering if anyone could suggest retailers that would have a large selection of higher end guitars (Gibson, PRS) new and used.

I'm on the east coast but I could travel as far as Toronto.

Thanks

My guess would be to do an online search for music stores in Montreal, Toronto, Boston and New York and see what they have for inventory.

Cosmo music and the guitar shop come to mind.

Plan a trip to Toronto and hit places like the 12th Fret, Cosmo music. Maybe stop in Montreal and Ottawa on the way and hit Steve's music or Lauzon. There are many many places that stock 'higher' end brands. All of them have websites to look stuff up.
Cosmo has the largest inventory on hand of new CS Fender, Gibson & other boutique builders such as Suhr.

The Guitar Shop in Mississauga has some very high end PRS guitars (new & used), but they are no longer a Gibson or Fender dealer so their inventory for those brands is limited to used. I would be careful buying anything from LA Music (across the street from TGS), heard too many horror stories. They tend to be high pressure & have all the high end gear behind the counter with very poor labeling.

The L&M locations on Bloor St. West & Mississauga tend to have a larger selection of high end gear than some of their other locations & the manager of the Mississauga store, Pat Furlan, is a really good dude.

Twelfth Fret is a fantastic store. Authentic Ethiopian food in the area too.

Folkway is a bit of a trek from the GTA (Waterloo is 1 hour from the west end without traffic) but definitely worth a look if you want a high end/vintage acoustic. Their prices are on the higher side, but they get in some pretty rare instruments.

River City in Kitchener/Waterloo has a lot of Gretsch guitars if that's your thing.

The websites for TGS, Twelfth Fret & Folkway are updated regularly (at least once/week) so you can decide if you want to make the drive.

Where is "River City" ? I live here and I've never heard of it.
Are you sure you don't mean Guitar Corner?

Brickhouse in Kitchener has some higher end acoustics.
Cosmos here in Richmond Hill (Toronto ) has more highend stock than I have seen but
"I have not been everywhere Man"

Here...take the virtual Tour

thanks @Roryfan, that's a nice write up.

Are either of the Steve's Music locations (Montreal/Toronto) worth visiting?
Steves doesnt get the best rep. I would suggest the other stores before that one.
If you were willing to travel to the US, I'd suggest:

Daves Guitar Shop www.davesguitar.com

Wildwod Guitars www.wildwoodguitars.com

The Steves Music on Queen St in Toronto doesn't have much of a selection of higher end guitars. They have plenty of pedals and I've found the staff to be helpful.

I'm curious what you're looking for, if it is something specific.

D'oh! You are correct. River City Sports is a store in Winnipeg that carries just about every type of sports jersey imaginable.

I've purchased 3 amps, 3 cabinets & some lovely vintage speakers from this store but no guitars that I can recall....hmmmmmm......but to be fair to the good doctor I also enjoy frequenting @bluehugh2 's House of Free Guitars. Caveat emptor: although the guitars may be free, the coffee is $2000 a cup.

No comment on Steve's as I haven't been there in aeons.

Capsule gets some very nice vintage gear but don't always do their due diligence re: mods/repairs since most of their inventory is on consignment, so make sure you properly check out a guitar before plunking down your hard-earned cash. FTR this is not me just talking trash, I purchased a '73 Strat off this forum that had been absolutely butchered yet it had been sold by Capsule as 100% original.
Steve's in Ottawa seems to have a good rep. Was a great buying experience for me, and some of the folks in the shop have been there for seems like decades.
Cosmo has more than any shop I've been to. But if you're willing to catch a plane I'd go to Wildwood...
Oh and as a happy coincidence Cosmo is in their annual liquidation sale so about half their high end guitars are 30% off
Twelve fret sucks! Their customer service is undeniably horrible! Great selection of guitars IMHO!

Twelfth Fret must suffer for a ton of looky loos and drunks where they are located...
