I have been following a few models (Yamaha LS-26, Taylor series 5 or Larrivee with cutaway) on R and eB for a few months now : It seems there is more and more guitars, new as well as used, annouced by a lot of japanese sellers.
Am I right to see there a relatively new phenomenon ?
Any explanation ?

could it be a rise in counterfeits?

Japanese models are usually built very well. I'll take an MIJ over MIA any day. Mostly it's guitar stores trying to sell to North America. Most are also cross listed so it could be sold to someone before you bid.

They have the market cornered on Gibson V's and Explorers as well, not sure what is up, but the prices certainly don't seem to indicate they are in a rush to sell.

Alot of Japanese Ebay sellers are flippers that don't even have the guitars in their possession, but they know where they are. The ultimate in low overhead sales :D
