I have no experience with ESP's, but I have a Schecter 006 Elite (not sure where it ranges with the C-1) and it's pretty good stuff for it's price range. Great metal guitar.

Do these guitars cost around $600-700 new? You would check out an Epiphone Elitist SG or Les Paul. Personally I'd look around the used market, being around Toronto you can pick up a great guitar for maybe a couple hundred more.

Is it possible for you to play both guitars or are you buying online, playing them would help your decision considerably. I personally like the Schecter C-1 over the ESP. I'm not a whammy bar kind of guy so this may be something you want to consider as well as I don't think there is a trem version of the C-1.

If you're looking for EMG loaded guitars you may also want to check out Godin's EMG LG guitar, that thing cooks!

Tough choice. Neither are the type of guitar I play, but I have been blown away but every Schecter I have picked up in the stores. They are making some amazing instruments.

Oh Master, why do you not want a used instrument? Save the tax, get a discount, maybe get a case, and get free mojo. There's some amazing deals out there, especially if you are a north-paw.
I can't comment on the guitars you are considering but I do have a high opinion of Schecter stuff.

Well the Schecter has an original Floyd and the ESP has a licensed one, so I guess that's a +1 for the Schecter. But honestly I wouldn't made that the deciding factor, these 2 axes are very similar in all aspects and both come from very good reputable companies that are known for producing great guitars, so it all boils down to trying both of them out and going with what feels and sounds the best to you. Anyhow, you can't really go wrong either way, they're both great guitars.

One of the best playing guitars I have ever played was a Parker PM20, and in my opinion, it is also one of the ugliest. It all comes down to what you really want. Many people will have a slightly different opinion on the exact same guitar. Play both of them and make your mind up that way (sometimes the ugly ones end up being the best guitar for the money).
Good luck.

+1 on the godins. I love me some godin. My LGXsa has sd's and it still rocks like a mofo
