Was gonna post pics but it was lunch hour. I took all the keys off my mechanical keyboard....Man, 5 years of accumulated peanut butter chunks, stray arm hair, stray sneezes, unidentifiable goo (probably from the stray sneezes). Took me the whole friggin' day to clean it with a rag, alcohol and pipe cleaners.

Humans are disgusting bags of germ-generating bio-fluids.

But this morning I have a nice shiny keyboard that types so much easier now that the keys aren't being pressed into God knows what. Lol

You wouldn't think it makes a differences, but I find much greater accuracy on keyboards where the letters are centered on the keys, rather than slightly offset towards one of the corners.

And yes, forensic investigators could probably rely on the inter-key contents of a keyboard for legal cases.

Four year old iMac wireless keyboard. All I've done is wipe it down with (well wrung out) disinfectant wipes. Never had it apart.

A lifetime ago when I worked in building maintenance (government offices and schools), the typewriter and computer keyboards were disgusting. Cleaning them gained me a lot of favour...though I never understood why the users couldn't clean their own tools.

I've got 73 unlabeled keys (combination of black and white ones) downstairs in the jam room that probably need cleaning. And considering it's spent 5 years in a considerably more toxic environment than my computer keyboard, I'll probably just throw it away when the time comes. I don't really want to know what is under them. And I don't own a hazmat suit.

No, I'm not a gamer at all. It's generally when I'm answering e-mails that I become a little "animated". I don't lose it or anything, I just type with a little spirit, LOL.
I can just see you on PornHub as you hear the wife approaching as you frantically pound keys to get the screen to close :)

now this is someone who totally gets it. ^^^^

if you're just using a regular keyboard, what would you be paying for a new one? best buy.ca has a wireless keyboard AND mouse for $30. not only that but for just $8 more, you can get a silicone cover that will allow you to cover it when not in use, or even use it while on there is you wish. so for less than an hour's work for many of you, a keyboard, mouse, and a cover. would you work an extra hour for it at work, or spend all day cleaning the one you have? in nearly all things, you'll find that material is cheaper than labor. this is why.
