I've used lemon oil on rosewood with good results and recently used Fret Doctor on two new unfinished rosewood boards.

Lemon oil is petroleum w lemon scent added. It's fine but just so you know. That's what Gibson ( etc) fretboard oil is, but 4x more expensive so buy generic at a hardware store vs at a music store.

I personally prefer an actual plant oil. Linseed or Tung, as is your preference.

And yes, Ebony is treated the same as rosewood; unfinished just oiled for conditioning cuz otherwise it dries out.

There are exceptions - e.g. most Rickenbackers, where they lacquer the fretboard whether maple or rosewood. There are also a few instruments with unlaquerred maple boards I have seen ( mostly Asian imports and similar weirdos). Basically oil anything that isn't laquerred. Oil on laquer can ruin it.
