A buddy who comes out to our open mic nights picked this guitar up in a garage sale and is wondering what it is and its age. He has sent it home with me and I'm going to try and fix some of the deficiencies. The nut needs to be replaced, setup, a knod for the selector switch and a ferule for one of the tuners. The finish doesn't come out that good in the pics, but it has a sparkle coat on top. Haven't seen to many gibby's with string through body.

Very interesting guitar. How does it sound?

Gibson's website maybe useful in providing an exact build date on your guitar.

http://www.gibson.com/Search/Serial Numbers

If that fails, call or email Gibson with your SN. I have contacted them both ways and found them to be helpful.

Ran the serial number through gibson and it say's from 74 - 75. As for playing it plays great and sounds real sweet. I also seen basically the same body with a set neck and tuneomatic bridge more what you would expect from Gibson. Also a L6S of some sort.

Like people said, I'm pretty sure that's a Gibson L6 Midnight Special. I just recently got a Gibson L6-S and it's a great guitar for the price. Definitely worth hanging on to.

How much did your friend pick it up for?
