I'm thinking I need to put one of my guitars in the hands of someone who know s what they are doing instead of my half-assed notion of what's right...

What does it cost, on average?

I'm thinking along the lines of:
new strings - 11s
general clean up
dress frets
set the action.

Anything else that's normally done?

I have no issue paying someone for good work. I just have no idea what's normal in terms of costs.

Thanks.

Yep, I normally do everything myself.

I've found though that when I changed from 9s to 11s, the guitar got a littel harder to play. I expected a different feel from the strings, but it feels like the whole playability has changed.

I plan to have someone do the setup and then learn from what was done....
I've done it to some of my past guitars and did okay, but it took forever.

Well, when I changed to 11's there definitely was a difference in playability! What I ended up doing was messing around with the intonation and string height. Going from 9's to 11's I would think that a truss rod adjustment may be in order since there is going to be a lot more tension on the neck. (I would leave that part up to a good tech). I love playing with 11's. I tried 9's but they are just too light for me. I end up squeezing them out of tune.

That's what I'm dealing with... I've done truss rod adjustments in the past, but like I say I do it all by trial and error. Intonation? I've never gotten this guitar right with that respect. It drives me nuts.
I'll look into getting it done by a pro some time next week.

Anyone in the Niagara know of a good tech?
