Gigged the new Avatar cab this past Saturday night. Kind of unfair to compare it to my 8x8 cab it replaced as they are such different animals.
Going from 8x8 to 2x12 really gave me a drastic drop in volume, but I was expecting that.
I really liked the tone I was getting with the 12s. The low end really rumbled and lots of the really good mid-range that one needs to cut through. I'm not a fan of horns, so I turned that off, but if you really need crisp, bright high end, the horn will give it to you. I found enough high end without the horn to suit my needs.

55 lbs is a nice change as well!
Next gig, I'll try the active 6 string, as I played the J & P basses this past gig.

I'm thinking I'll sock away some gig money and throw another 2x12 on top of this one.

Glad it worked out for you.

Would a 4-10 give you a nicer blend of tones with the 2-12 instead of 2X2-12's.

Does the amp require 2 channels to run that or can you find the right balance with the two different cabs on a single channel?

A 4x10 might give me a nice blend of tones as well. My amp would be able to run both just fine, though I'd be setting the pre-amp to get my sound from 2 different cabs. I guess on some level this could make one cab compensate or give up something for the sake of the other. I'll have to see I guess.

Easy way to find out will be to rent a cab from L&M, the rates are super cheap. They wanted $10 to rent a 200 W combo for the weekend.. Get a 4-10 or whatever combo you like for your next gig.
I do like the sound of a 4-10, may pick one up after I pay off all my stuff..plus a nice head to of course.

I was thinking of downsizing from my 2X10 + 1X15 + 400W head to a PJB briefcase or flightcase (http://www.clubbass.ca/philjonescombo.html). It's really only for stage sound anyway as I go through the PA whenever we play and a briefcase would take up WAY less room.

What size venues are you guys playing with those huge rigs? What kind of vehicle do you have to move it around in?

I have a Volvo wagon. I can fit my rig, the drum kit and even the drummer in the car.
