Found a cab for my Garnet Pro 600 Super ! Yay !

Since I acquired my Garnet Pro 600 was wondering what to use as a cab. I do have cabs, 215's, 810's... but nothing Garnet made for Bass for this type of power... I wanted a Garnet bass kit for the 600 ! ;) Call me picky but thats the way I swing my bass !

That being said... about 6 month's ago I missed out on a cab that was for sale by 2 minutes... The cab got reserved and if not picked up, I was second in line... The cab got picked up ! :(

here is the cab that I missed:

It was a BTO-B cab, 612 for bass... I cried myself to sleep for a month...:(

But !!!

Suddenly, another 612 BTO-B showed for sale in about the same area...

When I saw the add, contacted the seller, negotiated, made the deal and arranged to go and pick it up... At this time, was not aware that this was the same cab that I missed 6 months prior !!!

These are the for sale pics:

The person that bought the cab ( lives far away in another province) had it picked up and must not have liked the cost for shipping for such a beast since it came up for sale again !!!

Its only after comparing the pics that I realized that it was the same... lol

The cab is in bad condition, both the seller and myself don't know at this point if the speakers are good, the tolex is ripped everywhere and stappled back on... Missing all 8 gold corners which will be a Biatch to find... basically... a major project …

Its funny though that I got it later on ! I did a 5 hr round trip to pick it up yesterday.

So... the to do list... verify every speaker ( will most likely need to replace them... )

Will re- tolex this monster since its painted on all surface:

and find corners for it... and install an input jack...

Basically... I bought it as a naked cab !

Looks good! I need a cab for my Garnet Sessionman 2 x 12 combo. I've hurt my back to many times moving it.

Ouff... You should try this beast ! No casters and no handles... This baby was a Biatch to bring in and bring downstairs to the basement by myself !!!:confused::confused:

This baby is: H52 - W29 - D14 and weights in about 100-125 Lbs...

Why Gar did not put handles on these big cabs at the beginning is a complete wonder to me !o_O

Good for you, bud.

You sure this would have had gold /brass corners though? Is it pre 1970 (speaker date codes)? The worst part about finding those is that they are nonstandard - not a 1/2" roundover like everyone else uses but smaller radius, like 1/4" I think - almost a sharp corner. If you're stripping the thing naked anyway I'd recommend routing it down to 1/2" and using easy to find nickel/chrome corners - just like your BTO 600 anyway, which is 76 or later - make it match.

... also I see strap handles on the BTO-4s in that add. Garnet used the same style as Fender - easy enough to get those and throw a few on. Might be hard to see due to the poor condition of the tolex and the paintjob, but check for pre-existing holes.

Yep, its got the Gold underlined Garnet logo and double gold bass clefs at the bottom right logos...

Based on the speakers date codes, these are mid 1968.

All the early garnets had no handles... heads and cabs... this cab has no holes for any handles on it.

... also I see strap handles on the BTO-4s in that add.
That was later on in the 70's... BTO 400...

The worst part about finding those is that they are nonstandard
The Garnet website sells the original corners but only in silver plating... Will buy some sets and get them plated in brass... added expense but want to bring this baby back to the original look.

Since Gar sz he only made 125 BTO's... how many BTO cabs were made for bass …. o_O

Also GG... just figured out that all the bass cabs speakers have that black dot at the center on the dust cover, the guitar ones do not have the dot on them but have the same speaker code... I verified this on several other cabs … just to add to your database.

I think bribery of a spouse carries a minimal sentence.
Does she like purses and/or shoes? (just a thought)

Tres interesant; merci!

I didn't see the double clefs - saw the gold logo but , you know, things can happen.

I tried using the shoes as an argument in the past stating she had about 100 pairs... She answered that she throws some out everytime she buys new ones... So when am I going to throw out basses or amps !!!:eek::eek:

Woman !!! *#*(

;)

It is not a form of argument.

You buy her a few nice new pairs of shoes and/or some purses as a way of "bribing" her that your cab was an excellent and wise purchase

That's not going to work... all she wants is more space for her cloths and shoes... she already has all the bedrooms in the house... now she wants MY basement !!!:eek::confused:

Ordered from Garnet Amplifiers new grill cloth, cabinet corners, Garnet logo and a couple of handles just in case but unsure about installing them since none were on this baby...

Yep, this 1969 add clearly shows that the cabs had no handles...

Gar was a younger man then.

But I'm an old fart now.... :(
Big thanks to Pete Thiessen of Garnet Amplifiers!!! Got my parts !!! ;)

Need to order 7 yards of tolex now...

Let the restorations begin !!! :D

PS: Can you believe that they're is 78 screws holding the back cover !!! Thank god for a drill !

I had a little bit of free time so decided to open this baby up...

Removed the 78 screws and had a peak inside.

All speakers have the same code, Marsland Sept 1968

Took out the meter and got 5.2 Ohms on the input.

So... needed to try these out ;)

Had a little Pepco 801 ( 2-3 watts tube amp) right beside it so with alligator clips, hooked the cab up !!! :D

Holy Hell !!!

Got in trouble with the wife since it was way to loud !!!HNG^%$HNG^%$HNG^%$

Had to turn it down … lol:D

Next test will be with a 50 watts head when the wife is out !!!
