My late uncle was a firefighter and after this month I have a lot more respect for them than before . I never really realized how dangerous it could be
You're the man. Good work, thanks.

Tough work, a younger incarnation of myself had some training, just enough to know I was too chickenshit to choose it as a career.
Come on admit it, you're a chimney cleaner :)

Well great now I am singing the song from Mary Poppins and can’t get a vision of Dyck Van **** out of my head!

Appreciate those that fight fires to protect those communities.

I’m a career firefighter in Toronto. 11 years this year. I have so much respect for the wildland boys. That’s tough work!

Thanks for your courageous efforts. I spent 5 years fighting forest fires across Canada and know exactly what you've been through ,... it takes a special breed of dedicated men and women to get the job done working 14+ hour days.

A big thanks from me also. What I don't get is how men and woman fighting forest fires in 90 degree weather can wear all that protective clothing and carry all that heavy gear for hours and days. It boggles my mind how you do it.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, this isn't me, but an in-law of my daughter. I'm much too old for this line of work. He will very much appreciate the sentiment you've all expressed.

I have a lot of respect for those that fight forest fires. My hometown was evacuated in 1980 when a really big fire got scary close (1.5 kms, IIRC). They flew us out on Hercules transports. Most people were sent to the Air Force base in Gimli, MB, while we stayed with friends in Winnipeg. Luckily, none of the towns burned.

Not nearly as much as we appreciate his efforts. Sometimes, disasters can bring out the best in people. Or at least remind us just how much we appreciate them.

That said, I'm sure his wife will tell him "You're not sitting on the furniture in THOSE clothes!! Get changed before you sit down, and for heaven's sake wash up."

Didn't you used to be in Medicine Hat? Any idea what the air quality there is like at the moment? I realize it's a lot further south than where the fires are, but that haze seems to be everywhere at the moment.

Southern AB air quality is not very good at the moment. We had a few smoky days here from the fires up north in Bc and NT but good at the moment-fingers crossed!
Thank you for doing this. Hero comes to mind when i read this.
I got a couple of close firefighter friends (and family).

I do respect them deeply. BUT, I got this one firefighter friend that posts pics of things he shouldn't in my personal discord group. JESUS CHRIST the things you have to deal with outside of fires.

I also bug him with this - how do you know someone's a fighter fighter? They'll tell you. It's so true. Not a single YOUNG firefighter doesn't bring up the fact that he fights fires to everyone.

McDonald's "Can I take your order please?"
Him, "I'm a firefighter".

On a side, I have an OCD kinda thing where I count the pick-up trucks at the fire station I pass almost every day. I stopped calculating the ratio, because there is seldom any other type of vehicle. When there is, I just call them the 'new guy'.

I have a front parking lot. A back parking lot...and then if I pass six, I have the attached bonus lot to add that isn't on the property. Yes, I will circle around if I can see one of the parking lots. Yes, it is a problem. Come the company christmas party, there is TWELVE pick-ups that make up over 90% of the vehicles there.

I figure it's for your side gigs. The guys I know all have side contracting jobs.
