I've had this great sounding Beaufort (Tweed Deluxe clone) for a couple of years and its always had a problem with random crackling and an intermittent weird distortion on the tail end of sustained chords.

I happened to stumble onto a Facebook post where a tech was warning about issues that can be encountered if a metal shield on the back panel is not grounded. Sure enough, I opened mine up and noticed that a previous owner had applied some aluminum tape to the panel and it wasn't grounding to the chassis due to some rubber pads that were installed to reduce vibration.

So I ripped off the tape and voila, noise problem was solved.

Just thought I'd share in case somebody else encounters this issue
