I just wrote a massive post about it on another forum, but I’ll keep it short here.

I was mucking about with FFMPEG, a free program for editing and streaming audio and video that is probably on your computer somewhere, and I found it has lots of guitar pedal like effects in its filters.

Has anyone tried them with a guitar?

The program would be very useful because it is available on just about every computer, say a Raspberry Pi, from the commandline you could get it to take the sound from the input your guitar is plugged into, process a bunch of effects listed in a filter script file and send that to the output your headphones, or amp, or both are plugged into.
