Whoever the management of that orchestra is do not deserve to be management. It was a stupid, and in so many ways, litigable, move on their part. Their request does not meet the legal definition of a bona fide occupational requirement. It did not help that it was phrased in such an insulting way ("not bring attention to their temporary physical/dietary indulgences").

It doesn't help either that the orchestra was a volunteer group. Although that probably saves them from litigation, since no one volunteering was going to forfeit employment or paychecks.

If they didn't end it, they would be deluged with placard-bearing whales blowing tin horns and shouting "SHAME SHAME"at every concert. It's best to just avoid it and re-group under another name with a few personnel changes and a male singer when things blows over.

Trust me, I run in to stuff like that all the time, and they get away with it.

I assume you are a svelte, fit specimen with less than 15% body fat? You call people who don't fit your ideal weight range "whales", eh? What do you call people with brown skin? Or people with mental disabilities?

My body fat is dwarfed by the amount between your ears.

Hopefully yours too, the brain is 60% fat. @(*UY
I don't know if the percentage is THAT high, but yes, the myelin sheath, commonly referred to as "white matter" is a kind of fat cell that insulates neurons and assists them in conducting impulses faster; a bit like an expressway that can accommodate faster speeds by having no on/off access for great distances.
