Season opener in Bahrain. Qualifying... The Red Bulls 1-2 Verstappen/Perez followed by the Ferraris 3-4 Leclerc/Sainz. Verstappen and Perez finished up 1-2.....but Wow....first year Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonzo (after leaving Alpine), back on the podium in 3rd (first time since 2014) and doing it at the age of 41. Drove like a demon the whole race....epic battles with Hamilton and Sainz. And the Aston has some serious grunt. Where did that come from. Entertaining start to the year.

Yeah, every now and then some team builds a car that is fast out of the box. Good one for Astons and Alonso. Russel saying that Red Bull should win every race this year. Mercedes saying they have a dud car for this year.

Remove RB and we'd have an interesting season...

Aside from the OP's comments; good day for Williams with Mr Vowles in charge, Albon continuing to impress in less than impressive hardware, and Logan Sergeant doing a commendable job in his first race, too. Embarrassing day for McLaren. Embarrassing day for Ocon (1-0 to Gasly). As much as I'm not a huge fan of Stroll, he did a sterling job wrestling an F1 car for 57 laps with a broken wrist and toe. Seems like Mercedes still have work to do. Alpha Tauri still seem middling. Haas look like they'll be on a rollercoaster again, but nice to see Hulk back. Zhou Guanyu is going to need to catch up to Bottas if he's going to have more than 2 seasons in F1...

I seriously hope we aren't looking at another season like the ones of Hamilton-Mercedes domination where of one car/driver (RB-Verstappen) taking pole position and winning races by 20-30 second every race, then a distant second by the same car (RB-Perez) and then a couple of teams fighting for third place scraps. Good for the dominating team, sucks for entertainment. I want to see racing for wins, not 3-7 place.

I'm afraid RB will dominate for a while, if not all year.

And the cost cap cements that in.
Listening to the post-Bahrain GP "F1 Nation" podcast, Lance Stroll relates all the details of his cycling accident and the time between that and the race. It's the first time I've heard so much detail about it. Really quite amazing that he made it to the grid AND through the race yesterday.
It’s not unusual to have periods of domination in F1. Mercedes and Auto Union in the 1930s. Lotus Cosworth 1960s. John player cars in the 70s etc. McLaren. Williams. Ferrari with Schumacher.
... not to mention Red Bull's first stint at domination
I really enjoyed seeing Alonso on the podium. I’m hoping to see him there a lot this season.

He looks like he's having the time of his life...
Someone on the TwoPlusTwo forum was nice enough to start an F1 season-long Peehs game, but there are hardly any entries. No prizes, just bragging rights.

Peehs is the opposite of Sheep. What you want to do is be the only person to submit your correct answer, that would be 1 point. If 2 people have the same answer it's 2 points. A wrong answer is usually the worst correct answer + some number. Lowest overall score wins.

You would need to sign up for the forum and send the guy a private message with your answers. Deadline is Thursday night, or whenever FP1 is.

Man... I feel so old and out of touch sometimes...

I'm possibly older and more senile than you.
I'm aware of fantasy leagues etc... never heard of Sheep... so knowing that Phees is the opposite wasn't helping

It wouldn't hurt if I could spell backwards.

Here's a PEEHS style question. Name an NHL player who has scored 5 goals in one game.

A SHEEP answer would be Gretsky, a PEEHS answer would be Willy Lindstrom. The fun part is that in Peehs you know everyone will stay away from Gretsky, so you could submit Gretsky and be the only one, where as everybody of a certain age from Winnipeg will pick Lindstrom. It could be safer to go with Zhamnov.

???I suppose if you sent me the answers I could pass them on to the guy???
It wouldn't hurt of I could spell backwards
LOL, I actually typed PEEHS first time around, then went back to look at your post and corrected myself...

So it's kinda deep cut trivia as opposed to the stuff everyone knows

Well, in the case of this PEEHS it's your best guess of what is going to happen this season.

One question is...#7 (Race 8) - Name any driver that has scored points in the Barcelona GP before, that will score points again at it in 2023.

So if you want to be right you would pick Verstappen or Hamilton, but that wont get you an ace, so you could choose Sainz, but will Ferrari have fixed their engines by then? Hmmm, will Hamilton still be in F1?

I think I'll just watch the racing...
Today's race is on at 1pm? on TSN (for me)

I'm gonna have a nap and hopefully wake up in time for it.
