I had an EP3 Echoplex and yes they are good however they require maintenance and are very expensive. They can be inconsistent when moved around, so, if your plan is to bring it home and leave it in the corner you will be ok.
I think they are great but I came to the conclusion other units sound very close and are a fraction of the cost. I decided to sell my EP3...............There are many other options that sound great (Wampler, Strymon, Catlinbread) Just name a few!
Just my $.02
Faracaster is selling an EP2. Check the Emporuim. It's tube rather than SS.

Thanks guys. The price is not that much of a concern since i was looking at this or maybe a Kemper. Everything I have read seems to favour the Ep3. Thats is why I didnt search for an Ep2. I have demoed a few of the above pedals and could not seem to get the sound I remembered from a friends Ep3. Maybe its the preamp in it, but the standalone Dunlop preamp didnt seem to mimic it . The maintenance issues are a concern. Thanks
Yeah, there is nothing that sounds quite like a tape echo when its working well. I have tried a bunch of pedals (alter ego 2, catalinbread BE and deluxe, El Cap) All good but none are quite the same thing.

I really, really liked the Fulltone SSTE, it was very quiet and reliable compared to my vintage EP-3.
