Took out the good ol' roland micro cube for some late night noodling and wow, the single coils on my new washburn really brought the clean channel on the lil' cube to life! Here's a little clip I did to show what kind of tone I managed to achieve out of this tiny, toaster-sized amp:smile:. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=385634
I just threw down some chords with some delay and tremolo for the backing and the leads just had some delay. This was all recorded via the line out on the amp. The playing's not too great, but meh I think the tone's pretty sweet:banana:. I just found a new love for my micro cube:D.

Sounds good to me. It's amazing what those cubes will do. I have a cube 60 and used to have a cube 30. Great SS amps for the price.

Yeah that sounds really good. I'll keep my eye open for deals on those amps now.

The Cubes are great practice tools, it's easy to dial in pleasing and inspiring tones at pretty much any volume level for writing, practicing or recording. The drive channel models are somewhat digital sounding and are obviously lacking compared to a good old tube amp, but the clean channel models are surprisingly nice and warm sounding and pretty much have infinite headroom, since it's a solid state amp. That's why a lot of jazz guitarists go to solid state amps, for that hi fi clean sound with infinite headroom. Some people complain about ss cleans sounding sterile and such, but I think that has a lot to do with the guitar as well, with an all humbucker guitar the micro cube's cleans always sounded kind of sterile to me, but with single coils, it really has a nice warm and round sound with lots of sparkle.

yeah the difference between humbuckers and single coils for a clean sound is definitely night and day. Humbuckers just don't compare. Every time I'm in a shop I just can't resist plugging a strat into something (pretty much anything) and the clean sound is always fantastic.

btw where did you find a washburn in the lower mainland?

your clean clip sounds fantastic. It kind of reminds me of my friends amp that has an acoustic simulator except the cube is like 1/10th of the price and the tone is just as good. I like your other clips too (and the name on the soundclick :D)
