Best Pickup Choice For SG?

...i have an eastwood corona (SG copy) that i am prepping for stage use as my only humbucker-equipped guitar.

it has decent pickups but, like many humbuckers, i find them a bit muddy and dark, lacking highs and somewhat dull and uninspiring on the low notes.

i don't want to drive myself around the bend searching for the ultimate pickup, but i'd love to hear some recommends from humbucker guys.

i'm not sure what i'm looking for. i definitely don't want high output, since most of my other guitars are traditional single coils. on the other hand, i don't want a humbucking pickup that sounds nothing like a humbucking pickup. sustain is, of course, important.

highorder pickups may be the way to go, as he seems to specialize in traditional humbuckers.

do i need to spend a lot of money to get a good quality humbucker?

I've said it before and I'll say it again- I love my Classic '57s in my SG.

Do you live close to downtown TO, David? If so, you can come try out that guitar to see if you like them.
I sound like a broken record. WCR Darkbursts or Crossroads.
Seems like a Dimarzio PAF could work for you but favorites would be 57's.
Well, it depends I guess...

I had a '57 Classic Plus in one of my SG's for a while, but I didn't like it much. It was a little to bright for my taste. I replaced it with a Duncan JB, and I really like it.

My other SG has Gibson 490's. I like that too, but is sounds very different. More open & raw/vintage than the JB. Not as compressed. Not as much drive. It's orgasmic with my Trinity sIII...
My expierence with the HB's I got from Highorder has been nothing but good. Gigged with the guitar the other night and just loved everything I was hearing. No mud.. no shrill... The price is good on them also. There is a long wait period but it was worth it..
I've used a set of 57 classics in my old SG standard and they were great, then I bought a set of Lollar Imperials and they were really, really great. I'm currently using Jon Moore's pickups in my Les Paul and they are also really really good at a reasonable price. But I haven't tried his in an SG.
