I am looking at importing an Edwards guitar. Does anyone have any idea of what type of duties/taxes/fees are involved importing from Japan?

A lot depends how it’s shipped and the value on it.. it can vary a lot.. fedex will hit u with import fee plus whatever duty is assesssed at (typically 13% of value if in Ontario)

Who is shipping it? Ask for EMS if available. That way it comes to your door Canada post. There is a chance it will be hit by customs. But not for sure. FedEx or DHL or UPS you are paying brokerage duty and taxes. Guaranteed. I've had 20 packages come from Japan via EMS and only 2 ever got dinged. All guitars and Nikon cameras.

I think it was like 5 percent to the feds. If you can get it shipped via Japan Post (EMS or otherwise), you're golden. When I moved back, I shipped all of my guitars via post, and Canada Post didn't tack on any additional fees. About 2/3s of my taxable stuff that I sent back had any sort of duty on it.
