This seems like a big deal to me (for the pedal world anyway). Like changing the recipe of Heinz Ketchup. What do you do if your OD pedal is only outsold by the Tube Screamer? Well you change it of course:

There's a new version of the Fulltone OCD, it has been shipping for 2-3 weeks so you will find it at many dealers.
It is very different, and has a some very unique features.
If you didn't care for the OCD before, I suggest you give it a try, it's that different.

THE NEW OCD V2
The OCD has received many slight tweaks over the last 12 years, often incorrectly identified as “version 2, Version 3, V4, etc.” In reality there has always been only Version 1, with very slight variations making them V1.0 through V1.7.

SONIC IMPROVEMENTS

NEW FEATURE output buffer (when pedal is turned on in True-Bypass mode, or always when in Enhanced Bypass mode)) which eliminates it from being influenced be effects that came after it. Translation, your sound remains consistent regardless of placement in today’s more complex signal-chains, loopers, and pedalboards. This buffer also had a positive effect on the sound, it reduced loading on the pedal’s hard-clipping stage, allowing more sustain of both the sound and the overtones.

NEW FEATURE Class A configured discrete 2N5457 JFET input section, raising the input impedance to 1 mega ohms (previously 330K) and increasing the dynamics…resulting in significantly better interaction with both single coil and humbuckers.

NEW FEATURE Internal switch to choose between ”Enhanced Bypass TM” & True-Bypass, and with no popping sound in either mode. No other company offers EB…I invented it.​

I wonder if this change was driven by a component becoming hard to find. Or was it really an effort to make it less susceptible to other pedals in the chain? Cause a lot of people would say if it aint broke, don't fix it.

I think the added features are what bring it to V2 as opposed to just changing the sound of the pedal. There are real physical changes with the new bypass modes - I'd say "V2" is warranted.

That said, I have an OCD as my main dirt and it's fantastic. If this is a sonic improvement, I'd consider switching.

I too have an OCD permanently on my board. I remember when I bought it and a/b'ed it with a few other dirts I had at the time. It made the other dirt boxes sound like I had a pillow against the speaker. So I too am keen to try a v2 and see what the difference, if any, is. I hadn't really noticed the OCD not playing nice with other pedals. Perhaps I should try it just guitar-->OCD-->Amp to see if there is a difference for me.

SOUND WISE?
The stages added to the circuit changed the OCD, there’s no doubt, but it changed for the better.
Words some people used to use to describe the OCD: “brash,”--“scooped sounding,”--“Bassy,”--“lacks sustain,”-- “too affected by other pedals”….NO LONGER APPLY.

SIDE STORY
I love Robin Trower, but I get frustrated when I see him play because he’s always using a (pre-Full-Drive2) 1992 3-knob Fulldrive that he got new from me back then. How does that help me sell new pedals? Recently I sent a V2 OCD to him. Then I get a call: “Mike, this OCD...it’s unbelievable, I like it better than my #1 vintage Full-Drive! It’s not brash like my other OCD’s.” (ouch)
So now I’m confused, what does a new OCD have to do with an old Full-Drive? Not much, in my estimation.
(Robin continues) “It is so natural, full-bodied, and the opposite of brash! I’m using it on stage, tonight’s the second night! Cheers!”

Well, whatever version I love em. I have the Plimsoul and it is my go to for recordings.

I have an OCD (V1.4 I think) that I use for higher gain and while I like it, it isn't my favorite. In fact, it recently got bumped for a Mesa Flux-drive. I will probably go back to it somewhere down the road - I love stacking the Timmy into the OCD a lot.

Maybe I will really notice the different since I don't hear the OCD V1 as perfect?

This would excite me if I was still using pedals. I LOOOOOOVED the OCD but I HAAAAATED how its output stage would change volumes on me depending on what was turned on after it. As a band-aid solution, I started to run it into an always-on Timmy, but that wasn't ideal. If I built a pedalboard gain, I would definitely take a look at this version.​

I run my OCD 3rd or 4th in my chain and dont notice the issue you described. Maybe thats because I only run delay and reverb after it haha.

I always had an issue running the OCD into my SHO. Volume jumps all over the place. I guess it depends on exact placement and pedals. I've read about lots of others with similar issues.
