Yes the economy looks gloomy, interest rates and fuel prices are going up. And you're going to buy a guitar in 2023. What's it going to be, and why?
(It goes without saying it will make you play better, no matter what it is, and probably make you better looking too)

I was lusting for a few models, but ever since I sold the 335 few weeks ago it's all gone. I have no gear desire at the moment, just a satisfied mind and grateful for the guitar I still have.
I won't make any promises about the rest of 2023 though :)

I'm in the same boat. I quite honestly look around my little room filled with last years acquisitions and so help me, there is nothing I want.

I really want to focus on producing this year. I have so much gear that is directed at recording and production and last year I produced......nothing.

This is my year!
.....or not, time will tell.

Same for me, I've recorded a few track last year and it was a lot of fun. I want to focus on putting more stuff together this year and improve my playing.

No one said anything about improving :)

I filled the last guitar on my wish list already - finally got a Les Paul I like. I can't say I'm in need of any guitars. I actually still have a couple of fun builds to do as well. I'm now in need of a more efficient recording setup.

What did you get?

I picked up a 2016 R8 from a forumite here.
It plays and sounds exactly like I imagine the perfect LP to do. Needless to say, after a somewhat disappointing search involving a couple of other "roll the dice" purchases here, this one has restored my faith in the greater GC community. It has that distinctive open, airy, vocal quality that just gets better with a little gain. Custombuckers are some of the best pickups I've ever heard. Also, it didn't require a new mortgage and I'd say was a very fair deal. I'm actually more than thrilled.

That's awesome, glad you found one that suits you. Couldn't agree more about the custombuckers.

Once you start you will get exponentially better quickly. My quality of recordings has come a long way since I actually started spending time with it in September.
My biggest hurdle was drums. While trying to write/record full songs, and not having drums/be able to drum/ programming drums being a very longggg process, it was frustrating.
I'm really happy I went with logic for my DAW, as the drums in it are quite good and reasonably easy to figure out.

My biggest hurdle is talent, then drums. But I can pay my way out of one of those things and seeing as I just bought EZ Drummer I only now lack talent.

For anyone looking for a very capable, simple way to craft drum lines, get EZ Drummer. It isn't perfect, but it is more than capable. Drop a riff in and it spits out a drum track for you, then you can tweak away.

As for talent, if someone would list that up in the marketplace I would pay top dollar.
I rarely buy guitars, and recently got a Squier Cabronita baritone I’m still undecided on, so it might be a -1 this year for me.

A perennial dream guitar of mine is a Hamer Special, but I think I might go custom for that with some mods, so it might have to wait for a milestone birthday.
But where are the photos?!

The red is less pronounced in person. Not a clown burst. 🤡
It has a lovely neck carve that is almost identical to my 1958 J50. They got this one right.

Nice flame for an R8 - thanks for the clarification on the clownburst thing ;) (it's a fine line sometimes, that looks like a tasteful HCS)

It's actually quite a dark reddish-brown towards the edges. My phone camera doesn't seem to distinguish reds very well- always too bright.
Cool thing too, it has the bigger fret wire. Not sure which years they did that with the R8 but I'm glad mine doesn't have the smaller "vintage correct" wire.

Have been feeling kind of low lately, thinking about what to sell to fund something new, but this morning the Chancellor of the Exchequer convinced me to hold on to everything for now. Quite matter of fact about it. I'd like to do some scrounging for parts and used odds and ends...pickups, a cab, cymbals, machine heads, etc. Especially pickups. My love affair with small tube amp combo amps continues, so maybe...

If I came into some unexpected money, a new digital keyboard would be a good upgrade for the music space.

I know this office well. We do not see eye to eye.

That has to be the most eloquent way of saying the tax man slapped you I have ever seen however, so kudos to that.

I have too many pickups that need a home. I'm looking for project guitars only.

That just looks like a good one! Replacement knobs?
