I’ve never quite understood why people reply to for sale threads with “PM’ed.”
Wouldn’t the seller be notified just the same that someone has initiated a conversation? Depending on settings that might actually get them an email while the alert doesn’t.
Is it to let other people know that you have made an offer? Is it awkward when the offer is refused and everyone sees that because the ad is still up?
Saw a used OCD for $250 on toronto guitar exchange today. Seller mentioned "get it before the Klon increases hit and no low ballers I know what I got."..lol. PM sent probably means go fuck yourself in that context.
There were 2 others for sale at the same time, one for $150 and seller didnt reply, and one for $160 which i ended up buying. The guy i bought from showed me messages from the $250 guy saying to raise the price as they're discontinued.

Funny enough TGP is what inspired this. I sold a guitar on there awhile back and got a few “PM’ed”s, which were both people offering low value strait up trades
I don't buy and sell much on this site, but I guess I have posted a "PM sent" message before. On reflection the PM itself was probably more than enough.
I never reply "PM'ed unless someone does it to me then I'll put in the thread "PMed returned". I figure if someone wants to communicate that way then fine. But I don't initiate that.
I don’t always do it and I’m not sure what determines whether I do or don’t.
What I DO know is that if it’s a good deal or a particularly cool guitar that’s slipped a couple pages down in the classifieds, I sure-as-shit ain’t gonna bump it back to the top with “PM’d” reply. 😆
I turned off the notification for messages on every forum I'm on but always select notify me for sale threads I create. Message me and I'll see it the next time I log in. Reply to my ad and I'll know right away via email.
PM is like when you are kids and the fat kid goes up and licks all of the cupcakes that nobody else wanted in the first place or else they’d have surely been able to out run them.
I don’t think it’s useful to write “PM’d”.. Make a good offer or pay asking or else don’t be surprised if someone else comes along and scoops it.
This could all be solved by locking all FS sds to anyone other than the OP, then the only way to respond is by PM and you'll avoid all the commentary at the same time.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
