Weekly Free Mini-Lessons (youtube & TABS) thread

    Hi guys,

As i'm continuing with doing weekly mini lessons, I thought it'd be best to start a new thread and post any future ones on here - (keep it all in the same place and tidy etc...:-)

    here's the latest

    - a look at my fav 16 bars from Marvin Gaye's 1971 "what's happening brother"... - it's not in the 'standing in the shadows of motown' book.

    My Top 5 Timing Exercises

    Hi guys,

I've done a video and article on my Top 5 Timing Exercises on my site.

Bass Lessons in Muswell Hill and North London | Johnny Copland Bass Player & Producer

They're inspired by various ones i've picked up over the years from Carol Kaye, Victor Wooten, others or adapted myself etc...

Would be interested to hear of any other ones that pros or students have used to good effect.

    peace,

    Johnny

    Paul Simon - Armand Sabal-Lecco

    Hi guys,

here's another wee transcription. This time it's a look at the african 12/8 groove on "proof" from the 1991 Paul Simon Live in Central Park concert.

It's a little insight into a part of what's a great overall gig full of some world class bass.

    cheers and keep on groovin,

    Johnny

    bass workshop tour diary

    Hi guys,

    I recently went on a Bass Workshop mini-tour of the Academies of Music and Sound in the UK. I've made a little video diary and done a blog covering the kind of stuff we covered if anyone's interested;

If nothing more, there's a great quote from Steve Smith about being a musician for life!

    cheers & happy grooving,

    Johnny
