Hey guys.

I have an amp with a footswitchable boost on it and I was hoping you guys could help me figure out a foot switch for it.

the footswitch plug on the amp is audio only with no DC supply so your standard trem/reverb type footswitch with an LED will not light up. it will switch the boost on and off however.

moving forward, how would I wire up a foot switch with a DPDT, LED (with resistor), and a 9 volt battery to have the LED light up when the boost is active.

With no footswitch plugged in, the boost is active, much like the reverb or tremolo on any other amp.

does the drawing I attached make sense? I have no real clue about schematics. I can do the work, but thats about it.

any help would be much appreciated!

thanks guys
So I've been building BYOC clones for a while but wanna do some more hands on stuff - so I'm thinking about moving on to do some vero board pedals. Any canadian suppliers I should be looking at? I'd also love some pretty looking enclosures, or maybe some tips on how to make my enclosures cooler looking!

Recently I bought a 1979 Deluxe Reverb. I bought a new set of premium tubes from the Tube Store and a BiasPro probe. I have followed the directions but only see a voltage in the range of 6-10, with the meter on the 200mV setting. Both tubes are similar. The bias pot moves the voltage up and down but only in that range.

The amp sounds and seems to work great. As a check, I put the probe on my jcm800, which was biased by a pro, and it reads about 39 with the meter set at the 200mV range. This makes me believe both the probe and the meter are functioning properly. Also put a new battery in the meter to be sure.

I have little experience and need some help. What are these low readings indicating? When I play my guitar through DR the voltage swings all over the place, but with no signal the voltage is low. What am I not seeing?

Greetings from London. I have a good friend who collects and builds amps in his spare time. He sold me this guy about 2 years ago for next to nothing. Doesn't look pretty but sounds fantastic if you like those Fender cleans and because of the pre-amp volume control, you can get some really nice saturation going. He used to use this as his gigging rig but now uses a vintage Bandmaster. He told me he over-built everything on this one and used any parts from his amp collection that he had lying around. I have no idea when it comes to amp parts but I always like how the innards look on amps. I think I need a new cab for this one since his original one is just a plain pine box, screwed together, no nice dove-tails or such!! Anyhow, here are some pics. If anyone thinks the circuit is something other than 5E7, please chime in........he told me it's about 25 watts and has 2 volume controls, treble/mid/bass, and a presence.

I've got an amp with a 6SL7 phase inverter, and I've found that more than any other amp, this one takes about 30-60 minutes to get to a consistent sound, ie: while it 'warms up' the sound seems to change. Now maybe it's ear fatigue but I don't notice this as much with my other amps.

I'm sure I could stick a meter on it and see what's going on (which I may end up doing regardless), but I was wondering if anyone had a good explanation of what is changing while the tube warms up .. passes current better? voltage output not limited as much?

here's the deal - I LOVE the sound after about 5 minutes, but then after 30-60 minutes it still sounds good but the high frequencies increase and I end up turning down the treble as I go through a set. There's still always a harshness there that wasn't there originally. I'd love to be able to put a mod in to limit the amp and re-create the sound I'm getting about 5 minutes in, but I don't know if this is possible

Voltage & amperage being equal.......is there something in the wire or construction or age of an old transformer that gives it magic tone??
I can see the old iron being better built, more reliable maybe.......but?

or is it that they were over-built and provided more headroom? Or did they sag more contribute to the super creamy/yummy distortion? But sag is more of a rectifier tube thing
isn't it? I'm confused

After reading a couple of books (thanks for the recommendations in this forum), I decided to try to do an amp kit build. Just seems like something...

After reading a couple of books (thanks for the recommendations in this forum), I decided to try to do an amp kit build. Just seems like something kind of cool to do, and a very sly way of sneaking a new amp into the house. So, a week ago, I pulled the trigger and ordered what I need... a Marshall 18w kit from Trinity; an Eminence 'Private Jack' speaker, a tube set from the TubeStore, and a cabinet from an independent builder in ON.

This week...the various boxes arrived.

First - The tubestore.com delivered their premium Marshall 18w tube set... 3 Mullard 12AX7, a Tesla EZ81, and matched set of their "Preferred Series" EL84s (evidently 80's Russian military tubes...). Well packaged, including styro peanuts in the individual tube boxes to protect the points. BTW anyone know if styro peanuts are recyclable? These guys don't risk busting a tube due to poor packaging...

Next came the speaker. Factory packaged, nice little bonus of an "Eminience Inside" badge that one could put on an amp as well as a couple of Brit flag logo'd picks. Nice touches....

Today, the amp kit itself showed up. Lots of bits and pieces in that box! Stephen at Trinity obviously doesn't plan to have issues with damages either as everything was very well packaged and even the most inept delivery person wouldn't be able to damage stuff. There's 80 or 90 pages of documents included, some general "amp" and "tube" knowlege stuff, as well as the assembly instructions.

The cabinetry will be a few weeks, so I'll read the documents and take my time on the build, focusing on doing it right.

I'll post pic's as I go for those of you that care to see....
