My buddy...and forum member cale0906...coined the phrase "The Happy Desk" when I first told him what I was trying to set up as a home recording/home amp-less set up.

Tonight I removed my beloved Eleven Rack which has served me well these past 5 years or so...and replaced it with a Kemper Rack.
It took me a couple weeks to crack the code on the Kemper to get what I needed out but once I did...wow!

I have been very vocal as of late on the virtues of the 11R ( over at TGP) and still consider it a massive home run...I really thought the Kemper was going to be returned but then had an eureka moment and the beauty of the Kemper revealed itself

Took a couple pics and for those that like that sort of thing here ya go...

Its essentially a Pro Tools 10 set up Digi003 handles the I/O...the Tascam CD200i drops the iPod into the 003 for a jam buddy so to speak. The Fishman Aura Spectrum brings the acoustics into the 003.The Kemper handles the electrics/bass....all monitored through the Mackie HR824mkIIs.
(Toontracks Superior Drummer and EZKeys fill out the VI's..M-audio midi keyboard for those inspired moments)

Just out of frame is a 65 Amps Lil Elvis head and matching 2x12 cab and a Marshall 2266 head and matching 4x12 cab...neither has been turned on in some time

Its the best set up I have ever had for what I do...which is all at home these days.

What a great time to be a gear head...Kemper,Axe Fx 2,11R...so much cool gear out there...

Hola folks,

I just got my grubby mitts on a small ampeg 112 last week. It's solid ply (all 6 sides) with a V30.

I was a little skeptical that it would be all ply but sure enough it was.

Anyways, great sounding cab, looks awesome and CHEAP.

It was $150 new from axe music. They have a wide 24" version too for $200.

If anyone is looking for a well built cab for not a lot of money I'd highly recommend one of these while you can still get them.

OK...now that i've had the kit for a few weeks..i can give a better review on it..:)

I was REALLY afraid of that kit to be honest at first. I had bought a TC electronic FX system a while back and never got to make it work properly. But i was assured the Axe-Fx was really a different beast. AND IT IS...I received the kit...withing 15 minutes i was creating my own patches in the Edit Software, wish is just awesome to work with. no Manual required..it's all in your face and there to be used right away. For the first week i had to use it with headphones cause my Matrix GT10002U was stuck in customs. But once i received the Matrix, it got hooked and was able to rework the patches i had either made or downloaded to fit my Cab. and DAMN.

What blew my mind was downloading Mark Day's Van Halen Style Patch..wish is done with the Friedman BE100 and some cool delay and reverb....it's dead on...without blowing my eardrums out basically.

Some of the clean patches that comes with the Axe-FX, like the Eric Johnson one are to die for as well, it's not just the distorted tones...there is a Dr-Z patch..WOW. i've yet to go trough all the possibilities...but so far, what i've worked with blows any tube amp on the market. To have all the tone settings i'm using right now, i would need a wall of amps to be honnest. I'm creating or modding patches on a "Band" base right now...even Album base. so i wanna play for exemple VH's UNCHAINED..i got the tone...i feel like playing "2 minutes to Midnight" from Maiden...i've got the tone...and so one.

Next week or the week after, i'm receiving the MC-101 floor board, can't wait to give that sucker a go really.

What is crazy is how it totally FEELS like a Tube amp....unlike Line6's stuff...i quickly forget i'm all digital right now..:)

the ONLY down side, is working with the actually unit if you wanna work on a patch...i've yet to learn to do it properly on the unit itself. Now i get why every youtube clip i see of pro set-ups are using a Labtop on top of their rig..:)....it's still takes a bit longer then say setting a Marshall....but at least, your tone is always the same with the Axe...:)

If anyone would like to give this thing a go and wanna come over....everyone is always welcome..:)

I finally landed a 16 ohm, 65 watt Creamback.
In my 1x12 Venus 6 I've been swapping between the stock 70th Anniversary G12H, a Jensen Blackbird, and a Scumback BH55. Ideally I was looking for a cross between the G12H and the Blackbird, so I ordered the Scumback. The Scumback is a killer speaker but I went back to the Blackbird, partly because it's a much less efficient speaker and I don't need any more volume, and although it was amazing on the drive-channel I found it too honky for my tastes on the clean side. The Jensen's a gorgeous speaker - one of my fav's - but it isn't as great at cutting through in a stage setting as the Scumback.

Since I got the Venus I've had the nagging suspicion that these new Creambacks would be a great fit, but just try finding one in Canada! Sheesh! So I bit the bullet and paid the $44 extra for shipping, $11 Customs.

I just played guitar for the last hour feeling like the money was well-spent. Less honky and cleaner highs than the 70th Anni, firmer bass than the Blackbird, and the authority and fullness of the Scumback. Ugly, though. The Creamback's plastic is more of a bleached-50's-patio-furniture-yellow. Not like it matters.
I'd say it has a pretty even sonic spectrum, but tweaked at all the right frequencies for guitar. I'm really impressed. So far it's a natural fit for the Venus. I find the Creamback is close to a cross between the Scumback and Jensen Blackbird.

This is my Dream Bluesbreaker "mini"

Steve (moratto amp shop) called me (we're pretty good friends) and he said that he build his 5th Bernie amp. Given I don't need another amp, I listened anyway as he said that this one was different. He designed the front end like a JTM 45. so it's basically a Marshall JTM 45 in a 12 watt package. He cleaned up the chassis and luckily the faceplate was already in mint shape!!

I went over to hear it. Very unique and qualified, touch sensitive amp with character. I bought it as I had to have it. I didn't know what I would turn it into.

Here's a pic of the nice face plate. remarkable new looking Filmosound face place and paint. original!:rockon2:

Really clean chassis (if I can find a photo of the inside, I'll post. his work is CLEAN and pretty!!)

I bought 4 10" WGS 20 watt speakers from BC matt (great deal) and I already used 2 of them in my Bedrock amp.

I got Derrick Bell from Trenton to build me a custom bluesbreaker scaled down for a 2x10". I told him to make it as much as possible to scale. I also wanted it to be as light as possible.

Here's how it turned out. I still have to buy the logo/ what kind of Logo would you get? white small Marshall big, or with the gold?

I haven't stretched it's legs yet however I know that it's quite unique. I came with really old glass and the footprint is quite small. 2 12ax7 and 2 6V6 with a tube rectifier. running at about 12 watts. It's super light. like crazy light.

I highly recommend Derrick and Steve. two professionals who love what they do.

I was playing one of the Chinese made versions of this amp in my local shop today. It sounded pretty sweet to my ears (not a Vox guy at all so that's saying something) and the price was definitely appealing (it was under $750). Does anybody have any strong feelings one way or the other about these? Are the components the same as the British amps but with the savings found in lower labour costs?

I'm thinking about getting a little baffle from ClearSonic to help lower stage noise. Does anybody here own or use one? The AmpPac 10 is the one I'm looking at to seclude my single 12 combo. Alternatives? I don't really want to move the amp off stage or go to using any kind of isolation cabinet. Any other places in Canada besides L&M that sell these?
Thanks,

Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in on this one, looking for as many opinions as I can get.

Is there anything to be gained, by swapping out a vintage speaker in favour of a newer one? Would I notice a big difference? I have a '72 Twin Reverb and a '73 Deluxe Reverb. Last year, I had a crack in one of the speakers on the Twin, and my tech and I decided to replace it with a Eminence Red, White and Blues. I've been wondering, would it make sense to switch out the speakers in my Deluxe, as well as the other speaker in my Twin? Or am I better off leaving the vintage ones in there?

Would love to get a sense of what you guys think.

Cheers.

Hello,

A friend of mine brought this amp in saying that it was way noisier than it should be. I plugged it in and it was quite noisy. I took a look at the plates and they were both red and blue at the same time. Further investigation showed the power tube was drawing over 180 mA. No schematics to facilitate troubleshooting so I will be going at this with all the knowledge of amps that I have.

Wikipedia says Ace Tone was founded in 1960 by Ikutaro Kakehashi who then later severed ties with the company and went on to start the now famous Roland company. Ace Tone produced numerous music electronic devices such as drum machines, organs and amplifiers. You can read what else is on wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ace_Tone

This particular model of amplifier has 2-8" Philips speakers, a kickstand to lean the amp back, a tiny reverb spring and tremelo. It uses 2 12AX7's in the preamp and a 50HB26 power tube.

Hello,

A friend recently traded my a Marshall MOSFET Lead 100 amp for some work I will be doing on a Fender Bandmaster Reverb TFL5005D head for him. This thing sounds really good and I can't wait to learn how to dial it in properly. With the normal chanels volume cranked, you get an old school rock type of distortion which sounds really good and is responsive to pick attack as well as the volume knob on the guitar. You don't generally hear that discription brought up when talking about a SS amp.

Takings this amp apart reminded me of other tube Marshall's that I have worked on. Solid chassis and the pots are mounted the same way as other amps I have seen. The circuit board work looks like JCM800's I have had my fingers in and I even recognize one of the names on the CSA label. Tuna! It really seems like Marshall was making a good attempt at a quality SS amp as opposed to it being religated to the crap lines like now a days.

Now I just need to find the 1965A & B cabs that went with these so I can have a full stack!

Thanks for looking,

I have the opportunity to trade one of my guitars for either a Vox AC15C1, or a Marshall Haze 40.

I have no idea which one if either to choose.

I'll be playing my Big Daddy (hollowbody with P-90s) and a yet to be acquired LP through it. I play rockabilly, blues, hard rock and some rockier punk.

which way would you go?

Hey:

So I have had large, loud great amps.

Now I have kids (4, and 2). And not waking them up after 8:00pm is the ultimate priority in the universe. This is the conundrum of parenthood, because the only time I get to play is when the kids are in bed.

And I have some great guitars that just beg to be played, and inspire me to obsession every waking minute.

As a result, I have been collecting some low wattage amps and replacing my Mesa and Marshall monsters.

Recently I made the leap and bought a Fender Greta. I got a package deal with the matching Red 1x12 8 ohm 80watt Celestion cabinet.

I could not be more pleased with my purchase. I am curious if this amp has polarized people on GC as much as it has on other forums?

For sure you are not going to mike her up via the internal 4" speaker and do a gig with Keith Richards. But if keef comes over and wants to show you a riff in the basement while your 2 year old son is asleep upstairs then you'd be using the product one way exactly as the vendor intended.

I can see where some people would be immediately put off by turning up the Greta to hear it in a loud guitar store. But in a quiet basement where you can back off the amp a bit and finess your guitar controls you will be presently surprised.

And then... Plug the Greta into her or any cabinet and prepare to be surprised. Like I said, I have a number of small wattage amps (heads). So a decent 1x12 cabinet is a useful tool to add to the stable for me. But the Greta at 2 watts into a cabinet sounds fantastic. You won't believe it's the same amp. Zakk Wylde is not going to take this rig on the road but Greta through the 1x12 pushed into breakup is way beyond the threshold of sleeping children two floors away. It's a lot of fun for the money.

Then there is another neat way to use the Greta. I have a '66 blackface fender bassman head. It's only 40 watts, but way way too loud to push into breakup in the basement. So I plugged the Greta in front of the bassman. Greta works great as a tube overdrive on the front end. I can appreciate that not everyone has a clean tube amp with headroom to plug a Greta into. And no, you are not going to play Voidvod/Sepultura/Pantera with this setup. But it sure is fun.

So that's it. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea. But definitely not the one trick pony I found the Epiphone Valve Jr. To be.

B!

Was at Long and McQuade last week looking for a small body acoustic for my daughter (11yrs). Found a Yamaha that she liked and a little Fender head caught my eye. I took a quick look at it and went home determined to not make another impulse buy. Well when I got home, I did a little research and decided to give it a try. Went back to L&M and threw done the $299 + tax. Brought it home and hooked it up to my Traynor 112 loaded with a Tone Tubby ceramic. Wow. This thing sounds great.

I'm just a basement rocker so I don't need anything too elaborate. The models are very convincing and good enough for me. It takes pedals VERY well and sounds great overall. No buyers remorse on this purchase. I'm so happy with it, I'm considering selling my Trinity TC-15 head and a 73 Fender Champ I have. Anyone else tried one??

PS - No pics yet. I'm upstairs, it's downstairs and to be honest I'm just too lazy right now. Lol
