And those fakes just keep on coming...

    From Vancouver's CL

    http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...447637719.html

The seller even calls it a replica but is asking $1950. He's kidding, right?

I don't see him even calling it a replica. perhaps he's edited the post (can you do that on CL?)

the only text I see is:
Gibson-Les Paul model -original-next to new.$1950.00 obo. call for more info xxx-xxx-xxxx

for my own education, how can you tell this one is a fake? font looks a little off?

Funny, I had the original text in my cache. A shift-reload shows that he did change the ad.

The original version read "Gibson-Les Paul model replica-next to new.$1950.00 obo". Now it says "Gibson-Les Paul model -original-next to new.$1950.00 obo."

Funny that it changed since my first post on here. Personally, I don't know anybody who leaves the factory stickers on the front of a guitar if they are actually using it. The Les Paul logo is in the wrong place and has a curve to it.

    Real or counterfeit?

It's hard to tell from the low quality pictures, but it looks legit to me (the usual tell tale signs don't seem to be there). He could very well have meant reissue instead of replica, but as with anything, proceed with caution.

As far as the stickers go, it always surprises me how many Les Pauls I see with the stickers still on them ... people seem to like to leave the custom shop sticker on for some reason.

It looks pretty legit to me. If it is a fake its a very good one. Got the Headstock shape, nut cover and lettering right. Nothing pokes out to me that says its a fake.

I call legit based on the photos.

Regarding the Les Paul model on the headstock, that's the way it is on Historics. It's not like the USA line where it's in the middle. Historics' Les Paul logo is nearer the Gibson logo than the USA line.

He might be selling a different guitar than the one that is pictured. Like what has been said above, proceed with caution.
