    7-strings

Lately I've been looking at a few 7-strings online andi think that I might save up for one soon. The only problem is theres a lot of cool 7 strings out there and I'm not sure which ones i should even look into.
The ones I've been looking at are the Jeff Loomis signature shecter ( or any other 7-string shecter) or the Ibanez 7-strings(that i could put EMGs in)
I want something of good quality but not too expensive. I have a Godin Redline II that I LOVE!!! so i'd like to have something kinda similar in specs and stuff.

Any suggestions or imput is appreciated

What Ibanez models were you looking at specifically? What's your budget?

I have no experience with the Schecter or Ibanez 7-strings. I have a LTD SC-607B that I absolutely adore, though, and can't recommend it enough.

The unfortunate thing about Ibanez though, is that for the exception of the RG2228 (8-string) they are routed for passive-sized pickups. 7-string EMG pickups use the EMG Bass pickup housing, so they're wider. You'd have to route out your new guitar if you wanted to install EMG's!

The other option, of course, if you wanted to go active would be to install some Phase-I 7-string Duncan Blackouts. They are are the same pickup as the regular 7 string Blackouts, but use the smaller, passive-sized housing.

You may have to route the Ibanez for depth too. Most Ibanez pickup routes are routed for Dimarzio's, which are shallower than EMGs.

Check out sevenstring.org for a lot more info about 7 string guitars. I'm on there too.

I was looking at the ibanez RG7321 and the S7320. my budget is how ever much the guitar i chose costs. I'm only 15 so my parents might chip in half =)

i hate promoting them as they get enough already but i'm going to say agile. never played them before but way more often than not, i hear good things about them. and they have an extremely extremely strong following at sevenstring.org

i've had a schecter blackjack c7 before. i loved the scale, the pickups, bridge, neck thickness. but i didn't like the fret access at the bottom and i just didn't feel right with a 7 string so i eventually sold it. if i had to do it again, i'd probably buy an agile, but end up selling it too.

I have a Schecter Omen Extreme 7 string that I quite like. It has a very wide, very flat fretboard so that might not be to your taste but I play a lot of classical guitar so I find it comfortable. It sounds good too.

Have you played many 6 strings by Schecter and Ibanez? Which do you prefer?

No acctually, i haven't played many 6 strings by shecter or ibanez mainly because shecter aren't sold in stores in my area which sucks, but i've been meaning to go try out a few ibanez's
When it comes to guitar necks I perfer medium size necks but i've played guitars with wider necks and i find them pretty comfortable too

Just by going 7 you will get wider, the shape is more important at this point. I recomend the SC207 over the Ibanez, the fit and finish is much better and the neck through is amazing.
The pickups are ok but a high output bridge is more than enough. You don't need to go EMG, I know its the in pickup as always but passive will be cheaper and can easily have more output.
I have EMG 81-85 in my Jackson 6 and Dimarzio Crunch lab and Liquifire in my JP7. Playing the same song at the same volume just swithching guitars my JP is significantly louder with more distortion.

Agile is great, have lots of good stuff, keep in mind that they sometimes need a setup when you get it adding to the cost.
The other thing that I don't like is that you can't try before you buy.
Keep resale in mind to, no one knows about these..Saying that I would grab one if I needed it...have been thinking about an 8 for a bit.

the only thing i don't really like about that ESP LTD sc-207 is the pickup setup because i use the neck pickup a lot for solos. i figure i just like EMGs because of their high output 'cause I have a yamaha RGX 312 and the pickups seem to be way to low in outpur for what i play
so would the pickups an ibanez or the LTD sc-207 have a high enough output to match EMG 81/85?

I will say no, not like an EMG but I would say even with a Blaze PU.

    What amp are you using?

Lots of guys are using the SC line with EMG's and playing solos, the stockers are not the best but not bad. I would go for the higher models if possible with EMG's, used may be an option.
Keep in mind the Ibanez also has crappy PU's.

If you have never had a 7 just get what you can to make sure you love it, you can mod them as much as you want after you decide if you love it.
Another option is a simple volume pedal, one pickup is more than enough as long as you you use your guitar volume properly.

    Get out and try some!

At the moment the amp I'm using is a line6 flextone III and I've looked at videos of the Ibanez RG7321 and the pickups seem to be acctually ok but in case I want to change them what would be some good 7string pickups be and how much would they cost?
