For jams? Good enough. What are you going to plug it into? If your intent was to simply plug it into a guitar amp, keep in mind that it won't be loud enough. You would need a preamp of some kind.
Musician's Friend has a mike, stand, cable etc for $20 today
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...Pak?sku=580639
The brand is "Musician's Gear", so I know it's not going to be top notch... but is it usable at all? All I really need it for is to have around for jams in my basement.
Has anyone used one of these?
ps... right now I am using a hockey stick and tape for a mike stand, but only have vocals when someone else brings a mike over.
I figure the stand ought to be worth close to $20 anyways.

there's an old studio saying that i read in a computer music recording mag...
"if you only have one mic on hand...then THAT is the best mic to record with"...
i've "gotten by" with dollar store mics...and "pro" mics...both with great results...it's HOW you use it...not WHAT you use...

the stand won't effect the sound - so you can keep the hockey stick....but I found that cheap mics can present really ugly issues with feedback and clipping...keep the screaming (or even loud singing) to a minimum - should be ok
