Satriani was raised in New York, and began playing the guitar
at the age of 14. by 1971, he was teaching guitar to others
such as Kirk Hammett.
In 1984, after teaching guitar for over 10 years, he released a self titled 5-song EP on his own label.
In 1985, He completed his first full-length album, Not of This Earth, which was financed with a credit card. It was released in 1986.
Satriani's next album, Surfing with the Alien, became a global phenomenon going platinum with sales of over 1million in the U.S. alone. It showcased his multiple talents as a producer, composer, and player.
After jamming with Satriani's band at a club in New York, Mick Jagger asked Joe to join him as lead guitarist for the singer's first tour apart from The Rolling Stones.
He began touring in 1994 with Deep Purple's G3 Tour of Europe and Japan. In 1996 the G3 Tour played across North America to over 90,000 fans.
In 1997, Satriani teamed up with
Jazz guitarist Pat Martino to record 2 tracks Ellipsis and Never and
After for Marino's all-star collection All Sides Now album .
He then went on a second G3 Tour, featuring other musicians such as
Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Satriani's gift is to create instrumental music using bluesy tone,
and delicate phrasing, combined with amazing technique. He has
become the most recognizable guitar masters of his time, earning his
place among the legends. He has never lost sight of his
musical vision, and has maintained the respect of his fellow
musicians and fans alike.
