Hey all
I met up with Milkman this past summer to purchase a 4X12 cab. It was a brief meeting as we were both in a hurry....anyway..just before we departed he handed me a copy of his CD......I had it at work but just couldn't get to listen to it...finally yesterday and Wed. evening both me and the missus gave it a proper listen....we were both blown away....IMHO the CD is well produced, the songs are awsome..in my head I suppose I could try to make comparisons but that is not fair..it was difficult enough to pick a "single".....interestingly I kinda thought this CD could be played on a rock and/or country station...this CD is a keeper and I will share a listen with my buds when I get a chance...Mike, when is #2 coming out.
cheers

Agreed. This is what I @mailed Mike a few weeks ago:

I just got a new pair of home stereo speakers, and I decided to “christen” them with the TMKB CD.

I now hear a lot more detail in the production…..and this is a good thing.

I think “Going Home” is my favourite track. Everything sits well in the mix, in terms of the stereo imaging, the freq. balance. The song just sits. I like that. And the guitar figure has echoes of the bridge section of “Here Comes the Sun”, which isn’t a bad thing in my book either.

Oh, and the trem on the intro of “Brant County Line”…LOVE IT!!!! I probably overuse tremolo, but I do love how the “shake” adds character. In “BCL” I can hear a picture being painted. It’s a picture of hot, sweaty, exhausted and relief. I know that sensation well. Landing in Vancouver after 2 weeks in Taipei…..The first thing I did was ask who won the Stanley Cup.

But the best thing about the CD is that you didn’t overcompress the damn thing in mastering. There is actually dynamic range on the CD. In 2007 that’s not always a safe bet. There is stuff out there that’s mastered to an average of -4dBfs, with a brick wall limiter at -0.1dB. That stuff gets tiresome to listen to. The mastering of the TMKB CD seems to respect the music, and isn’t trying to kill the competition with loudness. There were some intelligent choices made in mastering there.
