...what is the point of announcing a songwriting contest LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE DEADLINE????

It seems to me that the cash prizes are usually about 24.25987% of the total revenue they generate from the entry fees. The extension of the entry time is usually a sign that they don't have enough money yet.

I think you have better odds with a scratch 'n' win ticket.

Presumably, if you are a songwriter you might have songs already written and therefore ready to submit. Unless you were sitting around waiting for a contest to come along so you could start writing a song for it. In that case, more than two weeks would be nice.

I'm kinda with jroberts though...
