This evening I gave my Godin A8 mandolin the milklock treatment and a fresh set of strings.


Gigging in Dover Saturday night.


It makes me laugh when I hear people lament about changing strings on a floyd.
Try one of these puppies.

Thats a sweet lookin instrument. Do you have another pic of the engraved piece.

It's a very functional and smooth sounding instrument.

It's pretty solid too.

The back is mahogany. I presume the top is spruce.

I always jam the high E into my finger when I'm string my mandolin. My fingers are too worn, the string is too small and the spacing is too tight. Inevitably I draw blood.

I love those Godin electric mandolins, played them in shops and an acquaintance's, but just haven't got one of my own yet. I've reset the neck on them because they often are shipped with a bit too much neck angle, but otherwise they're killer little axes. It's a mystery to me why there aren't more of them around. My regular mandolins are a Jim Moon (www.moonguitars.co.uk) with an aftermarket pickup, a Josh House (www.houseguitars.com) bouzouki/octave mandolin with an aftermarket pickup, and a Peter Cox (www.petercox.ca) with no pickup.

I also have a nice old Washburn. It's a copy of Gibson F type and is very nicely made.

The godin has more modern electronics though and so I more or less retired the Washburn.
