So I'm still incredibly new at this and for the most part, haven't a clue when it comes to gear. When I went back to my parents and mentioned I was taking guitar lessons, my dad went into the basement and raided amidst the million things that he has packratted away over the years.

This thing, covered in dust, was pulled out and I haven't a clue what it is. The fact that almost all the writing on it is in German isn't especially helping me out.

I've been trying to search it out online and I'm not exactly having all that much success. Again, the completely in German thing isn't really helping. My dad hasn't got a clue what it is or where it came from, just that he's had it for a long time. Any ideas?

Has it got tubes ?? If so, what does it say on each tube ??? That's the starting point.

Looks like a Klemt Echolette tape echo unit. Judging by the Echolette label it looks like it may be an echo unit like the Roland Space Echo. Is there a tape loop inside?

As to the question of inside aspects... admittedly I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing so wasn't about to open anything up beyond the cover.

Ah, the tape is gone so it is not functional. You can see the various record/playback heads and rollers etc.

Bummer about the missing tape. Check out http://www.loop-master.com/ -- he makes looper pedals but also does Echoplex tape rewinding. He might be able to tell you where you can find tape for that unit.
