I usually run through the amp sim in garageband instead of using my real amp when I need to be quiet. This one looks fairly similar, except without all of the other garageband stuff.

I played around with some computer based effects a while back, they were alright.

Site isn't working for me right now, but I'm assuming it's the same as Amplitube and Gutiar Rig? I downloaded both awhile back (the day that Jimi Hendrix Amplitube thing came out) but haven't toyed with 'em yet.

There are a few free VST plugins that are good. I've posted links to them in another thread. I'll look for it and if I can find it I'll post it here.

How good these things work really depend on what type of speaker system you have attached to your computer.

Here are the urls:

There are lots out there but this is what I use:

Savihost (http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm)
+
Freeamp 2 (http://frettedsynth.asseca.com/ampsims.html#FreeAmp2)

and, you may need this:

ASIO4ALL (http://www.asio4all.com/)

All are free at the time of this posting, but check with the sites to make sure.
