I wanted an amp with good clean headroom and built in reverb and tremelo to replace my SF 135W Twin Reverb. Something easier on the back. I tried:
JC 120
Vintage 60's Vibroverb
JazzKat John Pizarelli
Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue
The new 20 W Gibson tube amp
AER
Polytone
The Fender SS Jazz amp
Several others.
I wanted something that had a traditional sound. I'm more into Tal Farlow than Tal Bachman, or Joe Pass as opposed to Joe Satriani.
I use a full hollow guitar, and feedback is usually and issue long before the amp is loud enough to use up the headroom, so the 35 Watts in the Victorilux, (2 x 6L6 tubes, 1 15" speaker), is more than enough. I frequently get away with using a 12 watt 5E3 clone.
I've had the map about a year, and I have yet to crank the amp to full rock and roll status. I hear that I can, and the amp is awsome, but that's not something I need.
The tone is full, rich, round and appropriate. I can set the tone controls, (TMB) in any configuration and get a musically useful tone. I may not choose to work with some of those tones, but they are not objectionable. The 15" speaker give a great bloom to the sound when you get more than a few feet in front of the amp.
The amp comes with a lifetime warranty.
