View Full Version : Cat Power
I have recently discovered Cat Power (Chan Marshall) and she is just blowing me away. This music is some of the most original, haunting and beautiful stuff I have heard in years. It may not be your cup of tea but if you have never listened to her tunes you should check her out. Don,t know about her early stuff but this new recording is great.

Well, I watched both of those clips and I have to say it doesn't really do anything for me. In fact, I struggled to listen through to the end. I think the video of the first one doesn't make any sense at all. First it's about horses, then it's some girl acting silly (sticking her tongue out, etc), then it's about funny-looking wooden structures, while the song is basically one line repeated over and over again....'where is my love'. But, I'm not holding the bad video and the song lyrics against her. She definitely has a very distinctive voice, which might really take her somewhere. She sounds a lot like Lisa Hannigan to me. Do you know Lisa Hannigan? She does back-up vocals for Damien Rice. She, too, has a very smoky haunting voice, and she definitely has her followers. Here's a clip of Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. Do you hear the similarity?

Yes I do hear the similarities in thier voices. I don,t know Lisa Hannigan at all. The videos I don,t care about but I am enjoying her music, and as I said I know nothing about her earlier stuff. Out of about 10 people now that I know that have heard her music it,s 50-50 love it or hate it. I guess she is one of those artists that creates strong feelings either way.
I don't imagine you're going to find a lot of Cat Power fans on these boards.
