I came across this site the other day, and thought that the repair job was a good option for broken headstocks. (I'm refering to the first SG where the repairman used channels and inserts)

I don't think I've ever seen one done this way, at least I've never seen one done this way that was detectable.

The paint looks a little off to me on the SG pictured on the site though.

I would have went a little deeper myself and overall the repair is good. For the finish though I would have used water analin stain to darken the fresh wood and then resprayed over the aria with a shade darker, (not much) over the repair aria and feathered it out so it would have been not so evident.
