Ahh!! This blows, I got a bad cut on the end of my finger. First finger left hand, and every time I touch a string it hurts so bad. It's a pretty long and deep cut. The really bad part is, my band has been part of this open jam/battle of the bands thing for a few weeks now and the finals are this Sunday!! And I can't play!!!!! I'm hoping I can but it's already been 4 days since I cut the finger. This blows.

Ok I'm done venting now, I feel a bit better.

I did office installations years ago and this happened to me at least 3 or 4 times. I feel your pain.

If you want it to heal at all for Sunday, you need to put the guitar down completely.

If all else fails try crazy gluing it. It'll probably still hurt, but it'll hold together.

Can you put crazy glue on an open wound?

I gotta find something to do. I didn't pick up the guitar till today to let it heal a bit. But man did it hurt. I only played about a 1/4 of a song before I had to stop. I might try some of that liquid band-aid stuff but just pressure on it hurts too. This is not good.

Ah man. I once cut the tip of my left pinky open while slicing a bagel in half with a swiss army knife. We were on tour at the time and I had to play the show that night. It got rather gruesome by the end of the show, with blood running down my arm to my elbow.

Did make me feel rather punk rock though.

This is what you are looking for:

http://www.dermabond.com/

It is the FDA approved cyanoacrylate for use in closing wounds and surgical incisions. Should be able to buy it in your local pharmacy.

...my worst nightmare.

polysporin seems to accelerate the healing process, by the way.

Well I got some liquid bandaid stuff. I'll see how it goes. I just put it on but haven't played yet. I think this stuff might do the trick. I can play with a band aid on except that I can't play with a band aid on, if you get what I'm saying.

Does that liquid band-aid actually glue the flesh back together, or does it just provide a protective covering? If it just gives you a protective covering, it's still going to hurt like hell. Crazy glue, man. Crazy glue.

Yeah, that Liquid Bandaid stuff isn't particularly tough. I've used it before and it's mainly just for keeping stuff out of the cut, not really holding it together. It does work really well for keeping the cut sealed though.

Just a protective coating. It's making playing a bit easier but it still kinda hurts. Might have to go to the glue. I really want to play too, I have the Hamm Community Guitar here and I can't give it a good workout.

With any luck you will be able to play on Sunday...and with even more luck you will be able to get your fingers to bleed ala Pete Townsend. Should be good for a win at the battle of the bands.

I just received a nasty slice across the top of my middle right finger nail when doing dishes a couple of weeks ago...the dang knife blade was facing upwards on an angle when I reached in. It hurt like heck and looks kind of gross but its my own fault. I shouldn't have been messing around in the woman's domain.

Rumble, throw some polysporin and a bandaid on it, replacing every morning and evening. Don't take the bandaid off until about half a day before you have to play. Don't play guitar or use it- just let it heal. That's your best chance right now.

Yes not playing would have been smart!! But I don't listen, not even to myself. The liquid stuff held up pretty good tonight. I only played a bit tonight. I'm not gonna touch a guitar till sunday night now. It's kinda sore and opened back up a bit. I'm stupid, I know.
