My amp is SS power with a tube pre-amp. Another user with my amp switched the tube pre and said it made a noticable difference.
Is it a big deal to swap with tube pre's? Biassing and such is for power tubes correct?
And where would I find a Canadian dealer for JJ tubes?
I don,t know about bass amps but I had a SS amp with a 12ax7 in the front and all that was invovled was remomving the old tube and popping a new one in. You are correct Power tubes are the ones that need the biasing not the pre. I also use JJs and get them from my local music store. I have heard of online dealers....The Tube Store and Eurotubes I think......

Thank you sir! Pretty much as I assumed, but it never hurts to ask before I start tearing open the amp.

rich at www.amplifersplus.com has jj's now and he does the service work for most of the london stores.
basically you play the amp before and after the new tube, hit it with a pencil, play loud and see if it makes any weird noises. if not it will likely be fine
