Guys,
how hard would it be to re-wire the ext. cab port on my Allen Amp from series to parallel? I'd like to end up with a 4 ohm load instead of 16 if I add an 8 ohm cab.

Yes 2 8 ohm speakers in parallel will give you 4 ohms.

Thanks Jeff, I've got that bit figured out. What I have is an Allen Old Flame, with 2 x 10's. They are 16 ohm each wired in parallel for a total of 8 ohms. The extension speaker jack, however, is wired in series with the cab speaker jack. So if I plug in my 1 x 12 8 ohm cab I'll be running a 16 ohm load into the amp. Want I want to do is rewire the extension speaker jack to be in parallel with the onboard speaker jack. The amp has a 4 or 8 ohm toggle switch.

sheesh, now I'm confused :smile:

LOL. I'm sure I'm making it sound a lot more difficult than it really is :food-smiley-004:

I think he'll know what I'm talking about. I think he said older fender amps were wired this way.

Hi guys!

Sorry I'm late. I was taking a long nap! :zzz:

Dave, the easiest way to do what you want is to leave the amp alone and look at the speaker cabs. If you can add an extra jack to one or the other wired in parallel with the existing jack then you can "daisy chain" the two cabs. This will put them in parallel and give you 4 ohms.

If this isn't practical or too messy let me know and I'll whomp up a diagram or something for you to change things in the amp.
