Hello,

I have recently inherited this Gibson Lap Steel from my grandparents, and I am currently trying to figure out exactly what it is and how old it may be.

There is no serial number ANYWHERE on the guitar, and I have googled to no avail..

any opinions???

We have to fix up your pics first so we can get a peek at this unit.

Are these the pics of the item in question?

Looks like a Gibson BR-9 lap steel. Early to mid 50's. I don't think the knobs are original, they should be white plastic. You could check the pot codes for a "no older than" date.

Thanks Xanadu..

I have checked the pot codes, and low and behold, they were dated 1961, so they were obviously replaced, as this lap steel was produced between 1947 and 1959.

Makes me wonder about the knobs, because I have seen other pictures of these with black knobs, and some with the white radio tuner-type knobs, so I'm thinking it depends when it was made as to what knobs were manufactured.

I'm pretty sure those knobs are not original, but so what! String it up, get a lap slide and go for it! LOUD!!!!

Hell yeah! I have no intention of selling it, so I may as well learn how to play it!:rockon2:
