we get tha question a LOT. Buying an amp is kinda like buying a car mate. SO MANY different models.
OK..a few questions the boys will wanna know i'm sure. What's your guitars?..what kinda music do you play!...do you do Gigs?..or mostly a bedroom player?, are you looking for a combo that's easily carried?, are looking for a Tybe or electronic amp?, and the BIGGEST of them all...what's your budget?

Do you have/use pedals? And if so, what sorts of pedals or combinations are you likely to use?
since this seem to be your first amp..i'de recommend a Line 6 spider III. very nic little amp, with these you'll be able to learn about different FX, and combination and "choose" a sound you like. and then in the future buy maybe an amp that as less frills. i had a Spider III 75 watt. they are cheap, under 400$ brand new.

I've got the VOX AD50vt and while great, is too big for my needs. I would suggest the AD30vt, small, great sound, and has lots of options and is fairly cheap right now. I believe some upgrade the speaker but I'm sure it would do you fine. I have not upgraded my speaker and don't plan to do so.
I've also heard good things about the Roland Cubes, but can't speak from experience. Cheers

There is a Roland Cube 60 (older model with no modelling) for sale in Woodstck for $209.00. Very clean, comes with cover. Check out Woodstock Kijiji. The ad will say $219.00, but I spoke to the seller and he told me $209.00
I am not related to the seller in any way.
Good Luck

Depending on your style, Vox Valvetronix may fit the bill. I have owned the 15 watt version for over 4 years and just love it.
I previously owned a silver face Twin Reverb, but the size/weight was just too much for me in my cramped basement practice space. So I tried a few amps....Cube (too flat sounding).....L6 Spider (too harsh)....Tech 21 (too expensive, too much tweaking)...then...I found the Valvetronix. It could do the silver face'ish sound, does a pretty decent AC15 and AC30TB and has some fun effects, so much fun that I haven't touched my pedals in about 4 years.
I wouldn't recommend gigging with this amp...it's not a loud 15 watts like a Matchless or Suhr...but for bedroom/city_basement volumes, it it perfect for getting both amp breakup AND speaker breakup for recording. For examples, check out my myspace for samples of sounds...plus my Hockey Anthem Challenge entries).
