I like the Traynor more than the BJs but for what they are they are both good amps. IMO you are just going to have to try em both for yourself. And IMO get a DRRI instead.
The YCV20 and the BJ both sound boxy to me because of the small cab.
If you can find a YCV Blue 15 they where better than the W.red ,came in a bigger cab. Almost the same size as the blue 50 or a DRRI with a Patroit Speaker.
Another wonderful small amp is a 57 Tweed Deluxe or clone, 5E3 kit.

Is there a 'NOS' model or is the one you are looking at just one that sat in the store for a long time?

Isn't your MESA already pretty small and portable?

I've seen BJ's sound very AC30'ish. Guys say that you usually have to swap out the speaker though (V30 seems to be popular).

The Blues Junior benefits greatly from having some mods done to it. I'm not a huge fan of it stock. I haven't tried the Traynor so I can't comment on it.
Buddha's suggestion of the Mesa Boogie Studio 22+ is a very good one. These are a great little combo amp and they sound kicking. They go pretty reasonable on the used market too.

My buddy has a BJ and I've got the YCV20. IMO the YCV sounded better...
and even my bud likes it better than his BJ!
My YCV came with a Celestion Rocket 50W driver that I think is a pretty good all round speaker. I've been getting a wide variety of sounds out of that pup.( I think the WR came with a Greenback that gets switched out.)
I'm doing the combo into head & cab transformation so I can play round with different speaker/cab combinations.
Bottom line,You'll know "it" when you hear "it". Cheers, and have fun tooling around wid the sound!

problem is i want a different sound..the Boogie's clean ain't to bad..but it's missing something. the Studio 22 is nice, but still pretty hard to locate in Canada.

How about a Peavey Classic 30? They are a pretty great sounding little amp (and I'm not really a peavey guy). My buddy just picked up a Peavey Windsor Studio and I must say I'm impressed with that little amp as well.
Keep your eyes open too for a Garnet Jammer or Swinger. Nice little amps with great cleans and sweet tones.
yeah..the peavey classic is nice as well.

i'll plus 1 on the classic 30, especially if you find a modded one. you could also buy a second hand kit amp for a great price.

what are the mods on the classic?

there's a "class A" mod out there, i forget who does it though... i've heard them with closed back cabinets and they really sound great, too.
