I know virtually nothing about the details of EVH's original version of this "strat". However, LA Music in Toronto had a "copy" of this same strat for sale for either $12,000.00 or $16,000.00 (and it was marked SOLD :eek:).

Is your build a direct copy of the original? (which is what I suspect). I didn't get a close look at the one in LA Music...but yours looks virtually identical to me.

I can't understand why the selector switch is in the middle pickup cavity...seems very "awkward" (to be polite) to me.

You must have spent hours recreating all the details of this famous axe. I admire your incredible patience and craftsmanship. Congratulations.

Can I ask how much you intend to sell it for (just out of curiosity...especially given the LA Music price).

Again, superb work !!:food-smiley-004:

Very nicely done with one easily fixed caveat, the pickup needs to be angled slightly to a) be like Eddie and b) to span the wider string spacing of the floyd

wrt the posts about the rusty selector switch and reflectors, those are key elements in any serious VH replica, well done!

wrt the post about the rusty selector switch
Andy

Thanks Andy...my comment was a bit misleading/confusing.
What I meant was...Why would EVH place the switch in such an unusual/awkward place?

Maybe only Eddie has the answer.

eddie didn't have the original single coil connected, nor the switch. it was the bridge pup and the volume knob only. he would add/ take away stuff and paiint the guitar over and over as people would start to copy it. originally was the one on VH1 Black and white i think, then black and yellow? then red/black/white with different combos.

Eddie had some great tone. my fave was 1984. drop dead legs. wow. love that brown sound.

i remember reading an interview where he said he LOVED Clapton, and was after the Woman tone. But, he couldn't play a gibson since it made him look like a goofy version of Roy orbison. Strats were too thin sounding so he improvised.

he had a gorgeous old 335 that he ripped apart and bastardized in the process of learning how to work on guitars.

the original eddie guitar on first album only had a regular strat vibrato arm. no floyd rose on Eruption.

Now it all makes sense...thanks

This kinda detail takes a solid effort... from the croud this guitar will be very convincing... it's hard to get origional floyds is'nt it...

That's pretty good. Why would you want to sell that after putting that much skill and effort into it? It looks pretty special.

Thanks for all the kind words! it took a good 4 days to get even close to finishing but i have built some of these before.

greco, prices they range $1100 (i build them on the side) is the low that it sells for. this one has a 3 piece ash body, evh custom wound pickup, etc etc list goes on lol even has the quarter on it! lol i tried to get it as close to EVHs has i could. the fender ones if you notice are all different when they reliced them

as for the one you saw there it was the fender replica they made. for 16k your not getting much... this guitar would probably sound better funny enough....
