A few weeks ago I bought an AV52RI. About a week after I tried out a CS Fender Nocaster and initially didn't think it was enough better to justify twice the price of the 52RI. Well I've been visiting that guitar which still sits unsold at the Burlington L&M a couple of times a week and falling more and more in love. I usually plugged in to a Victoria amp but today I plugged it in to a Dr Z Maz 38 and wow. I am no scheming to take back my 52RI and pickup the Nocaster. I fear there is no help for me now.
ok ok..calm down..:)..now, go to your nearest church and ask for forgivness to the priest..;)...cause you will SIN my son.:)

You're so right! I try really hard to not buy this new LP 2008 and the Explorer Pro at my local shop and they offer financial plan......so tempting! :P
By the way, if you buy the Strat you will cure the need of the Nocaster...for now! :P

It's twice as bad when you can build them.

I just got back from the music store with Nocaster in hand. I have it for a one night loan. Based on my experiences with it in the store its highly unlikely it will be going back. But its nice to get it for a one night loan to confirm it on my rig. I even have a gig to try it out tonight. I'm gonna have fun tonight with a new guitar and a new analog delay unit to play with.

What Delay???
I just got a Boss RE 20 Space Echo... I was waiting for the BBE Two Timer but tried the RE 20 one more time and realized it is what I DESIRE!
Yes I'm afflictred with the same gas... just got a Yamaha Pacifica 612v... the least amount I've spent on a guitar in years... the most satisfaction from a guitar I've had in months... I'd take it over my (ESP) LTD anyday. And it sure beats gigging with a 2-3000 dollar axe though I will still do that... LOL
Also picked up a Blackheart Little Giant... WTF?!?!? this thing sounds good... really good. To be honest I probably would have never given it a chance if it was not designed by Pyotr Belov... still though it won't replace the Koch Multitone and Randall Lynch Box... maybe the handsome Devil will... NOT... hehehe

Well at the gig last night I gave both the AV52RI and the Relic 51 Nocaster a very scrutinized side by side comparison. Both guitars have a very appealing appearance. It just depends what you like. The Nocaster although not heavily reliced, was a more faithful reproduction in appearance to the 1951 Tele. The pickups in the Nocaster were slightly warmer, a touch fatter, although I have no problem dialing in the right amount of fat with my stangray for any guitar, and they were very harmonic and rich although not dramatically more than in my AV52RI. The pickups in my 52RI are twangier and that is a bonus for me. I had the tubes in my amp smokin hot last night and really there wasn't alot of noticeable difference between the 2. The Nocaster is slightly lighter than my 52RI. Maybe a pound lighter, I'm going be feel, holding the 2 up in each hand. When I strap one on after another they feel exactly the same. Hard to tell.
The neck of the nocaster is the big baseball bat sized and while playing it in the store seemed like it might be the preferred feel for me. But this is where the benefit of actually taking it to a gig comes in. After playing a couple songs with it I noticed that the neck was just to big for maneuvering up and down for leads but for rythm, especially open chords it had a great feel. The big neck not being good for my style of lead playing is a deal breaker in itself.
The 52RI neck is a good size also being smaller than the nocaster but bigger than my American standard tele or any American standard I've played. With the size sitting in between the AS tele and the CS Nocaster it is the perfect fit for me.
The Nocaster was setup much better from the factory but would still benefit from a professional setup. It only took 2 sets to determine the clear winner for me was the AV52RI. When making my comparisons I put all thoughts of instrument cost out of my thinking and treated them equally in that respect. It really didn't matter to me because if the Nocaster was the winner the extra cost didn't bother me. Its not often I get to like guitar that is half the price better than the more expensive guitar. As I've heard mixed reviews on the AV52RI with some saying that there are good ones and bad ones, I have to say that I definitely must have got a great one.

So the No caster is going back?
I have spend some of the afternoon ( shhh don't tell anybody) comparing my three Tele projects. I with different pickups in each one it's suprising just how similar they actually are.

Yes the Nocaster went back. I thought I dodged a bullet. But then while taking it back I ran in to an amazing sounding blonde Fender Dual Pro amp that I had to have. This amp is not cheap is not light but is one of the best soundng Fenders I've heard. Also from the custom shop.

Here is a pic of the AV52RI. This isn't mine as I haven't got pics of it yet. When I do get some pics done I'll post them.

I haven't brought the Dual pro home yet. I put $100 on it to hold it for me. I'm taking it to Sarnia for a gig on the 28-29 of August. I'll then be able to decide for sure if I want to keep it or get my $100 back. From what I heard in the store I'll most likely be keeping it.
Here is an image of it from the internet. These come from the Fender Custom shop. They were roughly $2,500 new. The one I'm looking at is a mint condition 2005 model, #320 off the line. I'm told not a whole lot of them were made. It has an amazing clean sound. From what I've read they are a one trick pony type amp but what they do well not many other amps can do as well. It will be a great companion to my Dr Z stangray which is also a one trick pony type amp in a much different way.

So... when you return a "Relic'ed" loaner guitar,
does the clerk check to be sure there are no nicks, scratches, or other signs of wear?
After all, they loaned you a new guitar.
This could be quite funny, given a new clerk who is unaware of relic'ed guitars.

Nope.
They make sure you haven't buffed any out.
