So on my lunch break today, I went down to the Hock Shop... normally not many a deal to be had. But today was a red-letter day. I went in, took one look and knew I'd be spending the week's pay. Shit.

I'd never seen one in real life before. Not a particularly sought-after axe, but one with an undeniable cool factor. As I put it the other day, it's Just the right kind of ugly.

But oddly enough, one of my threads on this forum had been kind of hijacked the other day... and the hijacker happened to have one of these. Seeing as how it had been circling in the back of my mind already, i figured it was fate and pulled the trigger. Got a ridiculous deal on a real vintage Gibson.

By the way... plays, sounds and looks friggin' amazing.

Enjoy my new 1976 Gibson Marauder. I know I am.

Very NICE!!

Cool factor ? Indeed!!
Awesome pickups? Oh yes.
Mucho overlooked by the guitar masses? In my opinion-affirmative.

Excellent dark horse/odd duck guitar with the Les Paul body and the Flying V headstock. I really like mine and I am sure that you will enjoy yours. You don't run into those every day like many of the 'normal' guitar models. Word is that Paul Stanley used to wreck a lot of them onstage too so maybe they are rarer than any production figures (or impressions of such) might indicate.

I don't know if you saw this page or not:

but it has these ultra cool old magazine ads that I remember seeing back in the day...

I'll openly take the blame for influencing you into a cool guitar like that. One thing about me is if something is a dog I'm not going to brag it up...if something is mediocre I'll slide it right where it belongs...if it is stellar I'll be raving about it.

Nice acquisition!!

First impressions... I love it. Haven't had to touch the setup on it. The neck pickup is gorgeous. Bridge has a bit of a volume drop, but I can live with that.

Sounds kind of like if an SG and a Tele had a crazy love-child, then abandoned it to the wolves and it grew up only knowing how to speak in grunts and barks.

For the price I paid, I can't believe the guitar I've got. Gonna play the Hell out of it.

Cool guitar, love those tuning pegs. Actually played one of these, belonged to a friend. Kind of reminds you a bit of the V neck.

It was priced at $400. I figured less than what a new standard Tele would cost me isn't bad for a 32-year-old USA made guitar.

I'm kind of treating this guitar like the world's heaviest Tele. Sounds great for Tool stuff, but it cleans up for nice clean lines too.

Nice and what a deal.

They are nice at least the couple I've tried way back in the day.

I get people asking about the Marauder all the time. Are you getting anyone coming around and finding it quite interesting?

Yeah... The guy who was just here buying my amp, actually, commented on it. When I took it into the shop to teach my lessons, I got some questions and looks. They're definitely eye-catching, and great conversation pieces.

And, though definitely not as important as those reasons, they sound pretty good, too!

Awesome! I like he maple neck ones myself, but that's great to find one in a pawn shop. AllI ever see in there are cheap overpriced Squires...
