Hey i've been playing guitar for about 3 years now and have been using the same old Godin Seagull. It's a good guitar and has travelled many distances with me. Anyways, I need advic as to what solid-body electric guitar I should purchase. I'm budgeting for 600-700$. I've been looking at some Fenders, but I'm not really sure what will get me the most for my dollar.
Thanks

You're in Victoria? There's a fantastic looking Guild on usedvictoria right now for $500. I'd snap that up in a minute (a) if I had any money and (b) if I needed another guitar.
No affiliation, but that's a great guitar for a good price and much better than any of the crappy epiphone/MIM Fenders you're likely to run into in your price range.

No affiliation.
YMMV etc.
But if the seller is legit, that would be a good deal IMO.

Honestly, For $600-800, The best you can get is Carvin. I have 2 on order, along with two I have already, They are the absolute best for the price ratio. Used is best if you can find what you want.

That's a decent guitar metioned below.
What type of music does the OP play/like?
What sound does he hear in his head?
Used guitars are a good way to go if you know what you're looking for and what their values are. Take a look on Craigslist and then come back with some links to guitars that appeal to you. People here will be able to tell you what's a good deal/value.

Ok well I love playing blues: SRV, Clapton etc
I also love hard rock/ metal: EVH, Iron Maiden etc...
So I went to my local music store and they have some nice American Strats for 895$
I was also looking on Used Victoria and found some guitars. Let me know what you think
http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/6521925 buy that then put in some hot rails or area 57's and replace all the other hardware. Unless this is a squier..
http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/6473968 I dont know anything regarding the quality of this guitar
http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/6471038 This is one i would seriously consider buying.

Check out the Godin LG series. Incredible guitars and used they can be had for really good prices. I wouldn't trade the ones I have for anything and I find them very versatile.

LGs are a terrific idea... I would also recommend an Exit 22, as offers 2 single coils with a humbuckers... great tonal possibilities there, but both are way comfortable guitars.
BUT... take a good close look at that Guild S-100... they are seriously cool guitars with great tone and playability. I have a '71 and I'll never part with it... at least, not while I'm still kicking. The one you linked to has some mods but it's not bad and at a quick glance it looks structurally sound... ... the nut width is fairly slender compared to an SG of the same vintage, so that's a consideration. After a few minutes on it I've adjusted to it... I only wish Fender would permit Guild to resurrect an electric line.

I'm interested in the Guild S-100. I just dont like the SG-style body.
Ok couple of questions about the Guild S-100
a) Is it a good quality guitar.
b) Would this guitar be suitable for Blues?
c) Any mods/repairs that come to mind?

It's a $#@@*! amazing guitar. The stock pickups are great. The fit and finish was excellent. The Guild electrics division had some good dedicated people... these went head to head with Gibson's stuff... try Googling some reviews of that make, or visit Let's Talk Guild (http://www.letstalkguild.com) to get user feedback. Is it a natural blues machine? Betcher @ss it is. Will you like it? I dunno. If you don't like the SG profile but can get past its appearance, I think you might like it a whole lot. But then again, you sound like you might be more of a Fender man.
Me, I've already emailed the seller! Haven't heard back though... man, I'd love to pick up another S-100. After the initial 70s production run, they started up the line again in the 90s, only to be bought out by Fender, which shut down all of the electric production. There's a hard core contingent of us who'd love to see Guild doing more electrics, but I'm not holding my breath. It may be a copywright issue these days... after all, it's basically an alt SG standard... same woods, a bit different hardware, but binding, double humbuckers, etc. Mine's a hotrodded '71, my first electric and my sentimental favourite.

LOL - yeah, it is. I sorta lucked out. Had a friend come with me to a pawn shop in '81, a guy who could actually play. I knew I needed some advice and really didn't want to waste my hard-earned cash on a guitar that was eventually going to disappoint me. After checking out maybe half a dozen different guitars, he pointed to the Guild and said "that's the one." I had all the metal added last year - it hides most of the scrappy marks it's collected over its lifetime.
Anyway, back to the OP - let us know which one you eventually go for!

Yeah, and that's a good thing. The cool thing about this era is that even lower-end guitars tend to have significantly better fit and finish than they did 20, 30 years ago.
