I make my own with Nuetrik (? spelling) plugs and cable I buy (by the foot) at the local stage/sound/lighting store. I think the cable is made by Beldon. Switchcraft make good quality plugs also.

Stay away from the ones that have the little raised parts on the jacks themselves if you use pedals. My tech told me about them ripping the guts out of pedals and that he had seen it quite a number of times...this after looking at my 'somewhat' expensive Planet Waves uni-directional cables.

I have the Lyric Melody and it is just about perfect. Good sound and NO handling noise, bit pricey though. It got good ratings in the Guitar Player writeup.

Look for these :

They are made by a Montreal company called Digiflex. The instrument cables in the Studioflex line (blue package) are made with Canare GS-6 cable and Neutrik plugs. I now have five of them and I think they're excellent.
Guitar cords are available at different price points from $5 to a couple hundred dollars for a 15 foot cable. Many question the very ability to hear differences between cables. I have compared quite a few cables myself and believe I can hear small differences but I will admit that my test certainly wasn't scientific and I knew what I was listening to. I have never read or heard of a study using scientific methods (ex: double-blind) in which people have been able to differentiate guitar cables. In fact, I have read a few proving exactly the opposite... people who believe they hear differences and describe the cables at length when in fact they're hearing the same ones over and over, etc.
Personally, I like the cable above because it sounds good and it is reliable and well-built. You decide how much you want to spend. Most of my guitar playing friends will use just about any cable and think I'm nuts for even spending $35 for a 15-foot cable.

Thanks for all the good suggestions.. I think the digiflex make a great guitar cord>> you probbably get what you pay for, meaning the cheap ones work but cant take the abuse and break down after while.
I really wonder why a cable starts to short out, is it in the plug or cable> can a person just buy some new plugs and solder them on..I look at a few of mine that are no good, on and off and on again and i don't see as the solder joints are broken.
I see La music sell planet waves, from 10.00 up >> and free shipping. i will be out this weekend and do some compairing..
Thanks Rick

Rick..you can buy good quality Neutrik (as seen on the Digiflex cable pic) or Switchcraft plugs and solder them on yourself.
It is often difficult to tell if the solder joints are the problem, but I would always suspect them first.
Also check the jack on your guitar..it could be making and breaking contact. Replacing the jack with a Switchcraft is always a good idea..they are very well made and will hold the plug much tighter..especially if you bend the tip "prong" in SLIGHTLY towards the plug (without the plug in the jack)
Cheers

+1 on planet waves - lifetime warranty. Walked into the shop with a broken one, walked out with a new one just last week. Cable lasted at least 3 years.
