The"New" Gibson Les Paul 2008 Standard coming out on Aug.01.08. It has a few interesting upgrades. Dunlop straplocks, Bourn gold plated potentiometers, Tonepros bridge and stoptail, and... most interestingly, an asymetric neck profile. The 'old' standard is still listed so you can compare.

What a beauty... and it's plekked!
Too bad I'll never have enough cash to afford when and I'll never be a good enough guitarist to justify owning one haha...

Oh, and a deeper neck tenon.

What asymetric means on a neck?
For the others update I really love them, normaly what I would do if I buy a LP! (That almost the upgrades I did on my Love Rock ;P)

Go the link above, click on highlights, one of those dot on the neck you can click on and it will take you the description of the neck. Normally I would copy and paste it here, but you can;t seem to do that with flash.

And locking 18:1 tuners - what took them so long? Every LP I've ever played or owned had serious tuning issues, which hopefully this would reduce.
Asymetrical neck, as I understand the term, means that the back neck profile will not be a perfect part of a circle. Rather, the thickest part of the neck will not be in the centre (or at the apex of the curve). On other guitars, with a slight V-profile to the neck, it is popular to make them asymetrical (ie. the peak of the V is not at the centre of the back of the neck).
Cheers,
Blair

hm, my LP studio has no issues and i just need straplocks for it.
i'd be interested in playing one of these.
I was told, by someone in the "kinda inside" that the new LP don't hold-up to former models, now is it true!..i don't know realy. just my 2 cents. I know that what they formely called AA maple for exemple is now AAA, and the old AAA wood is now for custom shops and reissue only.

I stick to the "I'll see what it's like when I play it it." Also, it sez it's available in a plain top (WoooHoo), which is my choice, so I couldn't rightly care about the flames. Maybe ebony or gold top - $200 cheaper too.
Yes, and I write this with my strat in my lap.
